Full-time: Raiders win 26-24!

A two-point field-goal attempt by DCE is astray and the Raiders score a famous win, fighting back from a 20-0 deficit to win 26-24. Not bad for a mob who were thrashed 40-0 by the Sharks last week.

Billie Eder writes: It was Manly’s game to lose, and lose it they did. After being up 20-0 at the 29th minute mark, the Sea Eagles only mustered another four points for the rest of the game.

For the Raiders, it was a different story. After a 40-point shellacking last week, the Green Machine looked like they were about to have another 40 points put on them.

But after a sloppy first half, and a Albert Hopoate sin bin, Canberra fought back to give themselves a fighting chance. Led by young half Kaeo Weekes and veteran Elliott Whitehead, Canberra brought the difference within two points with 14 minutes to go, before Hudson Young sealed victory with a try in the 76th minute. Manly have struggled to win a full 80 minutes all year, and this week it cost them the game.

That’s all from us tonight. Here’s the link to join the live blog of the Broncos v Roosters blockbuster.

7.45pm

Raiders hit the front for the first time

76 min: Young wins the race to an Ethan Strange grubber and scores. What a comeback! Weekes misses the kick.

7.32pm

Special Kaeo!

67 min: What a play from Weekes, who chances his arm with a kick into space that bounces beautifully for Cotric who tiptoes along the sideline and scores. Weekes misses the difficult conversion but a thrilling finish looms. Manly 24-22

7.22pm

Raiders go back-to-back

58 min: Deep in his own half, Waddell spills a pass which lands straight into the arms of Whitehead, who scores his second. Hasn’t Whitehead made a welcome return to the Raiders tonight. Weekes converts. Manly 24-18

Billie Eder writes: The Raiders have certainly come out with fire in the belly this second half. Veteran Elliott Whitehead gets a double, but it’s not going to make a difference unless they fix their disciplinary issues.

It was a crusher tackle on Tolutau Koula that led to a Reuben Garrick double, and Manly are too good a team to gift them field position and points.

If the Raiders want to stay in the contest, they need to keep this effort up and their defence tight. For Manly, it’s about not letting the game go when they’re ahead - they’ve blown leads a couple of times this year, and they don’t want to leave themselves with a clean -up job in the dying minutes of the game.

7.15pm

Raiders stay in the fight

53 min: Whitehead spins out of a tackle close to the line and scores. Weekes converts to make things interesting again. Manly 24-12

7.12pm

Manly strike first in the second half

49 min: Manly catch the Raiders short out wide and Garrick goes in for his second try. Garrick, having an off night with the boot, misses the kick that would have put Manly up by more than three converted tries. Manly 24-6

7.07pm

Bald is beautiful

Matt Lodge doing a solid job for Manly off the bench, but the jury is out on his new look, having had a hair transplant in Turkey in the off-season. I think he looked more intimidating sans hair.

7.01pm

Play has resumed

41 min: Raiders kick off, needed to overturn a 14-point deficit. No small feat in these conditions.

6.47pm

Half-time

Chasing five straight wins, Manly go to the break leading 20-6 thanks to four unanswered tries before the Green Machine hit back with one of their own.

Billie Eder writes: That could be the best first half Manly have played all year. Just six points leaked in those opening 40 minutes, and 20 points to their name - including an impressive runaway try for Tommy Talau.

The Sea Eagles should be one or two more tries up, but the Raiders managed to tighten their defence in those final 15 minutes, even when they had a man in the sin bin.

Overall, Canberra’s first half can be summed up by that Albert Hopoate sin bin - too many penalties, too many set restarts. A lucky intercept from Elliott Whitehead means the Raiders don’t go to the sheds completely in the dust, but they need to clean up their discipline if they want to stay in the game.

6.38pm

Raiders hit back

32 min: The Raiders desperately needed to be next to score, and they’ve done just that via former Sea Eagle Kaeo Weekes, running off a flick pass from Elliott Whitehead. Weekes converts. Manly 20-6
