Police yesterday raided a property owned by Mercanti's mother on Brodrick Street in Karrinyup, taking Mr Mercanti into custody.

Mercanti has been charged with two counts of sexual penetration without consent, one count of aggravated sexual penetration without consent and one of common assault.

Police allege the offences took place on Thursday around midday.

Remanded in custody

Mercanti appeared in court today wearing a white paper jumpsuit.

He spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood the charges against him.

His lawyer, Paul Holmes, said he would be making a bail application for his client but needed to gather more material first.

He asked that the matter be remanded to Monday, which magistrate Janelle Scutt agreed to.

At a recent hearing into another matter involving former Rebels Bikie chief Aaron Karl Labrook, Mercanti was described as a member of the Mongols bikie club.

Outside court, Mr Holmes said as the matter was still before the court and the bail application hadn't been made he didn't want to comment.

But when asked, he said his client was "fine".
