Matilda Larissa Crummer retires after Champions League loss, to ...
Matildas veteran Larissa Crummer is retiring from football at the age of 28 to spend more time with her family and take up plumbing in Australia.
Crummer signed with top Norwegian side SK Brann in March last year and went with them to this year's Champions League quarterfinals.
But after a 3-1 loss to Barcelona (5-2 on aggregate), the forward told local media she would hang up her boots and move back to Australia.
"It was quite an emotional finish," she told Norwegian outlet Bergens Tidende.
"When I was thanking the fans, it got very emotional. I am happy to finish here on such a high in a quarterfinal in the Champions League.
"I think it's everyone's dream to play in these kind of finals and I'm glad I made the decision to come here and play for Brann."
Crummer, who has played more than 30 times for the Matildas since 2015, said she felt she needed to spend more time with her two children and wife Jodi, who she married last year.
"I've given 28 years to football, so it's just time to switch it 'round and be a good mum and be there for the family for once," she told paper's football podcast.
"It definitely wasn't an easy decision."
"They have put me first for so long, now I think it is time that I finally put them first.
"With the two little ones being as young as they are, I'm missing a lot. I just can't wait to be home and finally be part of the family again."
There is no rest for the former Brisbane Roar star, who said she was flying home immediately to have her first Easter with her family and starting her new job on Wednesday.
