Patriot League Announces Men’s and Women’s Tennis Weekly Awards (3.12.24)
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Boston University and Navy split this week’s Patriot League tennis awards when the League announced the winners on Tuesday.
For the second time this season, Boston University senior Victoria Carlsten was named women’s player of the week after going 2-0 in the Terriers’ 7-0 win over UConn.
In Navy victories over Temple, Norfolk State and Richmond, sophomore Herrick Legaspi racked up five wins in singles and doubles play, earning Patriot League Men’s Player of the Week for the second time.
Lehigh senior Megha Dania and Navy senior Samantha Johns earned honorable mentions.
Men’s Player of the Week
Herrick Legaspi, Navy, So., Sacramento, Calif.
*In Navy wins over Temple (4-0), Norfolk State (4-3) and Richmond (4-3), the sophomore tallied five wins in singles and doubles play.
*Against the Owls, Legaspi recorded a No. 2 singles win (6-1, 6-3) and a No. 2 doubles win (6-4).
*At Norfolk State, he notched a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) court-one singles victory.
*On court two against the Spiders, the California native earned a 6-4, 6-4 singles win and a 7-6 (9-7) doubles win.
Women’s Player of the Week
Victoria Carlsten, Boston University, Sr., Malmo, Sweden/Korrespondengymnasiet
*Carlsten earned two wins in the Terriers’ 7-0 sweep of UConn.
*In singles action, the senior notched a 6-1, 6-1 court-one win over the Huskies’ Olivia Wright.
*In doubles play, she and partner Nina Gulbransen recorded a 6-1 victory on court three.

*The senior scored a No. 3 singles win (6-0, 6-1) and a No. 2 doubles win (6-1) in the Mountain Hawks’ 6-1 victory over Stonehill.
Samantha Johns, Navy, Sr., Simpsonville, S.C./ South Carolina Connections Academy
*In the Mids’ 5-2 win over Georgetown, Johns earned a No. 2 singles win (6-1, 6-1) and a No. 3 doubles win (6-1). The senior is now a perfect 6-0 at the No. 2 singles position.
