Not at the concert tonight? Feel like you’re there with our gallery

For those of us who aren’t exchanging friendship bracelets or sweating through sparkles at the concert, at least we’ll be able to follow all the fun in our picture gallery. We’ll keep the gallery below updated during the evening, so you won’t miss a single rain-induced Taylor curl.

Just how loud is this concert?By Anthony Segaert

If you’ve ever wondered just how loud a Taylor Swift concert is… we have the answer.

I’m standing just outside Accor Stadium and during one of the key moments of Delicate, when Taylor sings “1, 2, 3, let’s go b-tch!” I took a sound-level recording using a decibel meter (an app on my iPhone).

It was loud. 102.1 decibels loud.

According to the app, normal conversation is 70 decibels. A motorcycle is 90 decibels. Taylor is closest to a diesel truck at 107 decibels. And remember, this is OUTSIDE the stadium!

We’re an hour in. What’s left to look forward to?By Lauren Ironmonger

So, we’re about an hour into Swift’s marathon 3.5-hour set that’s so far given us favourites like Love Story and Cruel Summer. What’s still to come? Thanks to the highly choreographed nature of the show (even most of her adlibs are scripted), we have a pretty good idea of what to expect. Here are some highlights to look forward to.

Soon to come are some tracks from her fourth studio album Red (known for 22 and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together), plus the 10-minute version of All Too Well (part of Swift’s re-recorded version of Red).

We’ve also got her 1989 era coming up (the album that saw her now longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff come on board), while the petty Swifties in the crowd can get excited for the Reputation era leg of the show (Katy Perry’s presence at tonight’s concert is having some fans excited about a potentially juicy performance of Bad Blood).

Of course, we’re all hanging on for the two surprise songs of the night (which also comprise the acoustic section of the show), which should be coming at around 10.20pm. Some of the Melbourne mystery songs included Red, You’re Losing Me, a mashup of Getaway Car, August and The Other Side of The Door, and Teardrops on My Guitar.

Those holding out for Midnights will have to wait a little longer for Lavender Haze and Anti-Hero, while Swift comes full circle and closes out the show back in her Lover era with Karma.

The snake is here – you know what that means...By Anthony Segaert

After a stunning short rendition of tolerate it, we’re about to get to Swift’s angriest, sexiest, loveliest era: Reputation.

Released in 2017, the album was released amid a swathe of public celebrity disputes and romances.

Its signature animal — a snake —has slithered across the stage. It’s rumoured to refer to what everyone called Swift after a feud with Kanye West and his then wife Kim Kardashian, and is now a symbol Swift and her fans have reclaimed.

Of course, it means we get Swift’s stunning Reputation bodysuit: black with red snakes.

Will Taylor tell us more about the zoo?By Melanie Kembrey

As Champagne Problems gives us the feels (and the Evermore fans have a cheaper-than-therapy moment screaming the lyrics “f-—d in the head”), it’s a good time to take note about the banter (or lack thereof) we’ve had from Taylor Swift tonight.

There was a shout-out to the stormy weather, to the fact Swift hasn’t been to Sydney for some time, and to the enormity of the crowd (“you’re so loud”). But if you’ve seen the Eras Tour documentary or watched any footage from her show, you’ll know that many of these lines are stock-standard with only the name of the city substituted.

Of course, it’s a precisely choreographed show, and Swift has to stick to timing and cues - and also, who has the energy to bring fresh wit to every night of the show (it’s hard enough trying to bring it to each blog post after nearly 12 hours). But we would perhaps like to hear Taylor on a few things: her obsession with Sydney Zoo, her Italian meal in Surry Hills and how she found peak-hour traffic travelling via car to Sydney Olympic Park.

Tickets won’t stop the party for Taylor-gaters

Earlier in the show, we got one of the songs that really shot Swift into the mainstream: Love Story, a sort of modern Romeo and Juliet.

And the fans were here for it outside the stadium, thousands singing along.

“I’ve cried four times tonight,” one fan said afterwards — and we’re only a handful of songs in.

Feeling this: Charlie’s first concert (no, it’s not Taylor Swift)By Gyan Yankovich

Charlie Wiltshire, 9, along with her mum Mel Boardman have travelled to Sydney from Newcastle for Blink-182 at Qudos Bank Arena tonight.

The ticket was an early 10th birthday presents from her parents. Wiltshire has been a Blink-182 fan for a year and a half, despite most of her friends at school being Swifties. What’s she most excited about for her first concert?

“The fire on the stage and how fast he gets the drums,” she says. Of course, by “he”, she’s referring to Travis Barker, not to be confused with the other Travis who people are excited to see make an appearance at Sydney Park tonight.

Meet Sydney’s Taylor-gatersBy Anthony Segaert

So, there are 81,000 people inside the stadium, but what about outside? Thousands and thousands. They’re mainly centred around the gates closest to the Olympic Park train station, and they are belting out everything (hilariously, the timing is a bit off: large swathes of this crowd I’m in are about a line ahead of what Swift is singing inside).

They know every word, every chant, every hand movement. They’re true Swifties, and most are here because they couldn’t get tickets.

The Maundettes are among them. The family of seven were camped out in the only dry spot they could find under the base of the stadium. They couldn’t get tickets, despite having tabs open on every device for every sale. So they’re making the most of it: “We’re the biggest Swifties,” said daughter Arabelle, offering us Red and Our Song friendship bracelets.

Taylor Swift storms SydneyBy Melanie Kembrey

Herald photographer Wolter Peeters has captured these wonderful pictures of Taylor Swift performing to a sold-out Sydney stadium. It’s almost like we’re there, and not here ... blogging in the office in a Lover-pastel blazer and listening to some truly horrific singing from TikToks of the show (and some colleagues). Love Story just came on, so get your rings and your knees ready, people.

One era down, seven to go...By Anthony Segaert

And with that, Sydney’s first Lover era has ended. Aside from the blue bodysuit, there wasn’t anything noticeably different of the six songs from her Lover album. For the most part, we’ll stick with the Eras in blocks. Up next: we’re going back to Swift’s roots with her second album Fearless.

Video shows moment Travis Kelce enters the stadiumBy Lauren Ironmonger

After arriving in Sydney earlier this week and going to the zoo, Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce has arrived at Accor Stadium. The Chiefs’ footballer – basically America’s first husband at this point – has kept it casual but festive in a matching blue T-shirt and shorts. Kelce is joined by Scott Swift, Taylor’s father.

Will Swift shout out Kelce in Karma, as she did in Melbourne, singing “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me”?
