Will Taylor bring out Sabrina for a surprise song?By Melanie Kembrey

We’re about 20 minutes away from the two surprise songs Taylor plays every show.

This show is different to others on the Australian tour so far because Taylor’s opening act Sabrina Carpenter had to skip her performance to make up for lost time, thanks to a rain delay.

There are reports Sabrina has left the VIP area of the stadium and might be making her way backstage… could she be brought out for a surprise song duet?

It’s February, but I’m in AugustBy Melanie Kembrey

Remember back in August, all the salt air and rust on your door. That’s where Taylor is taking us, as we now reach peak Folklore-era with her song August.

This is potentially my favourite Swift song. The soft, melodic tones, strings and flutes, the nostalgic lyrics - can’t you see us lost in the memory?

Back when we were still changin’ for the betterFor me, it was enoughTo live for the hope of it all

This song conjures the feeling of looking through your parents old photo albums, seeing all their sepia-toned smiles. The golden days, back when Taylor was meeting people beind the mall.

And the longest song of the night is one we know All Too WellBy Anthony Segaert and Julia Naughton

The title is long but the song is longer – and the words are beautiful. It’s a stunning extended version of her song initially released off Red, a heartbreaking story of a break-up gone bad (widely thought to be about Jake Gyllenhaal).

“Cause there we are again in the middle of the nightWe’re dancing ’round the kitchen in the refrigerator lightDown the stairs, I was thereI remember it all too well, yeah”

We know every word outside. About 300 hundred fans are in a circle signing every single word, jumping in at all the powerful moments. And now… they’ve inexplicably all lay down on the fall at the instruction of one fan in the middle. A … new tradition?

Inside the stadium, confetti is starting to fall as Swift concludes All Too Well. A magical moment with a cool southerly bringing reprieve after a hot and humid few hours

Nine-year-old with incurable cancer gets 22 hat

It’s become a highly anticipated moment in each Eras Tour show: Taylor Swift picks a member of the crowd and crowns them with a black hat while she performs her song 22 . (You can learn everything you want to know and probably more about the 22 hat here.)

There’s a heartbreaking story behind the awarding of The Hat from Taylor’s first Sydney show.

The recipient was nine-year-old Scarlett, who was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer in October last year. According to a post on social media from her step-mum Natalie Oliver, the cancer is incurable, and the prognosis was 12 to 18 months.

“She has been an absolute warrior through surgeries, radiation and other treatments (all done to try and prolong her life),” she posted.

Scarlett was granted a Wish from the Make a Wish Foundation, but her dream of meeting Taylor Swift seemed impossible. However, the pair managed to get tickets to the show, flying from their home Perth to Sydney to attend.

Earlier on Friday ahead of the show, Oliver posted in a Taylor Swift fan group that Scarlett would love to receive the 22 hat. Scarlett was also pictured holding a sign asking to get the hat.

“As would everyone else I’m sure... I just want her to experience everything in life and if anyone deserves a little happiness it’s her. She deserves the world,” Oliver said.

Warmth and joy continues outside the stadiumBy Anthony Segaert

This is the moment hundreds of Swifties began yelling in joy as fan Kirsten spun around in her stunning Enchanted-style dress outside the stadium.

The Swiftie, sensing the moment in the 2010 song that sees Swift in a similar ball gown-like dress, did a few spins as a circle of hundreds gathered around her.

Kirsten, speaking to us just after, said she had the dress from her year 12 formal and just knew this was the night to put it on once more.

When she’d returned to her friends, a very young Swiftie came up and offered her a friendship bracelet, commenting on her beauty.

It’s an example of the warm and joyous vibe outside the stadium. These scenes have been occurring throughout the whole night!

Thousands of Blink-182 fans also having the night of their livesBy Gyan Yankovich

Good evening from the girl at the rock show!

Many Blink-182 fans were taking plastic bags stuffed with Eras Tour merch into the concert tonight, while others were singing along to Swift’s lyrics, overflowing from Accor Stadium, as they lined up to have their bags checked by security.

There was clearly no bad blood between the two fandoms, even if the distinction between cowboy hats and black skinny jeans has never felt more obvious.

“Best of both worlds,” said one Blink-182 fan. “We’re about to see Blink but we’re also Taylor-gating.”

Blink-182 went on a stage an hour after Swift, meaning there was some time for closet Swift fans to make the most of the singalong outside the stadium.

Big reputation: Scott Morrison a Swiftie By Melanie Kembrey

We’ve spied some legitimate celebrities already but, just in, former prime minister Scott Morrison and his family are at Taylor Swift tonight.

As we prepare to head into Swift’s Red era, Morrison has posted a picture of himself with his wife Jenny and their daughters Abbey and Lily.

He seems to have interpreted the brief of dressing as your favourite Swift era quite literally, wearing an entirely red shirt. He’s also wearing a red hat with an American flag on it, no doubt a reference to Swift’s country of origin, and her Made in America man Travis Kelce.

However, after watching Morrison’s recent performance on the ABC documentary Nemesis, I do wonder whether Reputation might be a more fitting favourite era for him. Although, the Red album does have a song called Treacherous.

Swift moves fans to tearsBy Lauren Ironmonger

Despite a giant wall separating themselves and Swift, Taylor-gaters outside the arena are being moved to tears by the chance to finally hear the pop star live. Herald photographer Max Mason-Hubers captured some of the emotion happening outside Accor.

Just how loud is this concert?By Anthony Segaert

If you’ve ever wondered just how loud a Taylor Swift concert is… we have the answer.

I’m standing just outside Accor Stadium and during one of the key moments of Delicate, when Taylor sings “1, 2, 3, let’s go b-tch!” I took a sound-level recording using a decibel meter (an app on my iPhone).

It was loud. 102.1 decibels loud.

According to the app, normal conversation is 70 decibels. A motorcycle is 90 decibels. Taylor is closest to a diesel truck at 107 decibels. And remember, this is OUTSIDE the stadium!

We’re an hour in. What’s left to look forward to?By Lauren Ironmonger

So, we’re about an hour into Swift’s marathon 3.5-hour set that’s so far given us favourites like Love Story and Cruel Summer. What’s still to come? Thanks to the highly choreographed nature of the show (even most of her adlibs are scripted), we have a pretty good idea of what to expect. Here are some highlights to look forward to.

Soon to come are some tracks from her fourth studio album Red (known for 22 and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together), plus the 10-minute version of All Too Well (part of Swift’s re-recorded version of Red).

We’ve also got her 1989 era coming up, the album that saw her now longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff come on board – and Katy Perry’s presence at tonight’s concert has some fans excited about a potentially juicy performance of Bad Blood. Petty Swifties in the crowd can get excited ahead of the Reputation era leg of the show.

Of course, we’re all hanging on for the two surprise songs of the night (which also comprise the acoustic section of the show), which should be coming at around 10.20pm. Some of the Melbourne mystery songs included Red, You’re Losing Me, a mashup of Getaway Car, August and The Other Side of The Door, and Teardrops on My Guitar.

Those holding out for Midnights will have to wait a little longer for Lavender Haze and Anti-Hero, while Swift comes full circle and closes out the show back in her Lover era with Karma.
