At just 34, Melbourne’s Adrian Portelli has become the talk of the town with a portfolio worth over $1 billion. But who is he and how did he amass such wealth? A Current Affair recently had the opportunity to spend the day with Portelli to unpack what makes him tick.

You may recognize Portelli from his appearance on last year’s season of The Block, where he famously bid up to $4.8 million on one of the homes. Although he didn’t emerge as the winner, Portelli quickly proved his financial prowess by purchasing another home that went unsold that day.

“I was fairly low-key back then. So no one really knew what I was worth, or what money I had… People thought I couldn’t afford the house, but obviously I knew I could buy all the houses,” Portelli shared with A Current Affair.

With more than 40 cars and 20 homes under his belt, Portelli has just splurged on a record-breaking $39 million penthouse in Melbourne. The opulence doesn’t stop there – he also acquired a $3 million McLaren Senna GTR, one of only 75 in the world, which he creatively craned into his living room as a “marketing stunt.”

“It’s not showing off. At the end of the day, as you can see, the car is fully branded, it was a marketing stunt… Why wouldn’t I want my car in my penthouse?” Portelli proudly shared.

According to a report by 9now.nine.com.au, the McLaren cannot be registered for Australian roads, making it a luxurious centerpiece for his penthouse living room. Reflecting on his journey, Portelli expressed, “If I went back five years ago or 10 years ago and I said to myself, ‘you’re going to be craning your $3 million McLaren into a $39 million penthouse’, it gives me goosebumps.”

Located on the 57th floor, the Sapphire Apartments Penthouse spans two levels, with Portelli now eyeing the smaller floor above to expand his living space and enjoy 360-degree views of Melbourne. However, he clarifies that this lavish penthouse will serve as his “weekender” rather than a permanent residence.

Beyond his extravagant cars and lifestyle, Portelli is known as the founder of LMCT Plus, a platform that offers house and car giveaways, among other things. Portelli modestly shared, “My main business, LMCT Plus, is very public, so you do hear a lot about that. But there are a lot of businesses in the background, investments, real estate, medical, that we are doing… It’s a group of businesses that make up my worth.”

While Portelli estimates his wealth at over $1 billion on paper, with an annual turnover of approximately $100 million, he humbly refrains from calling himself a billionaire just yet. “I’ll say it when it’s in my bank account. On paper it’s one thing, in your bank account it’s something else,” he remarked.

Portelli’s rags-to-riches story serves as a reminder of his humble beginnings in the western suburbs of Melbourne. He shared that he took significant risks and faced numerous setbacks throughout his journey, including a failed attempt at starting a limousine business in Los Angeles.

Portelli stated, “I just kept taking what I learned from that failure, applying it to my new venture, I’d get further down the track. A lot of nights I’d cry myself to sleep. It was hard… A lot of people don’t see that. They only see this kind of stuff, but they don’t see what it took to get there.”

Despite his personal success, Portelli also considers himself a philanthropist, often extending help to those in need. He recently donated $100,000 to Toy World, ensuring a better Christmas for hundreds of underprivileged children.

Looking ahead, Portelli remains focused on his journey without an ultimate goal in mind. He simply plans to keep pushing himself as hard and as fast as he can. For those aspiring to be Portelli’s neighbor, the penthouse below his new acquisition is available for purchase at a staggering $13 million.
