'Agatha All Along' Is The MCU's Second Worst-Reviewed Series Ever

DisneyI did not imagine that Agatha All Along, a spin-off about the 208th most memorable character in Marvel canon, was going to get a lot of viewership, even if it was good. But it also seems to be the case that reviews are not terribly amazing as well, as so far, critics are scoring it below audiences.
Agatha All Along currently has 67% on Rotten Tomatoes among critics with 50+ reviews in. Yes, that’s a “fresh” score, but in the grand scheme of Marvel TV, that makes it the second worst-reviewed series in MCU history (excluding the now-canon Daredevil/Defenders Netflix content, and pre-Disney plus things like Agents of Shield).
Audience scores are a bit higher, but even still, it’s the fourth-worst there. Here’s the full list so you can see what this looks like:

DisneyI have said for a while now that I think there is some level of critical exhaustion with the MCU, as looking at the long arc of things, the longer it’s run, the worse scores get. But unlike some of the movies, I do think most of the lower-scored series here are…justified. Secret Invasion is the worst thing the MCU has ever produced and that score should be lower. Echo was not good. I like She-Hulk but it loses a lot of points for its sub-par VFX.
So, Agatha All Along? It’s hard to say. I did like the first two episodes, though critics have seen more (I don’t think the entire thing, yet?). I don’t think we’ll know the grand scope of how the series plays out until we reach the end, and if it has some insane MCU moment like the resurrection of Wanda, that could elevate it to a new level (no spoilers, it just sure seems like where this is going). My guess is that it doesn’t deserve to be this low, but I can’t say that for sure this early. But I think this debut is at the very least, promising. Again, this is not a bad score per se.
We’ll learn more next week, and for seven more weeks, in fact. The performance of this show does not actually matter as it’s a nine episode miniseries with no season 2 planned, but I’m sure Disney would like to have more people watch it and like it than not.
