ALDI opens in Mackay, Queensland - Retail World Magazine
ALDI Australia brings its “highly anticipated” shopping experience to Andergrove, Mackay in Queensland with the new store opening on 15 May.
The opening of ALDI Mackay marks the first ALDI store in the region and will offer the local community an exclusive range of “high quality products at unbelievably low prices.” The spacious location will feature a 1186sqm custom designed store front as well as a range of innovations including self checkouts, a modern interior design and simple layout so customers can easily navigate the savings on offer. Customers will also have access to 134 parking spaces, 49 of which are covered.
The store will be packed with “award winning” fresh produce delivered daily, 100% Australian meat and iconic Specials Buys. “Customers can feel confident that every item in their trolley is not just great value but is top quality too. It’s this guarantee that has contributed to ALDI winning Canstar Blue’s award for Australia’s Most Satisfied Shoppers eight times,” the retailer said.
ALDI Australia Managing Director, Queensland Bronwyn Post says, “We know the passion Mackay locals have for ALDI and how much they’ve been looking forward to ALDI bringing Australia’s lowest priced groceries to the region. Now more than ever it’s important that Aussie’s have access to affordable groceries so it’s truly a pleasure for us to be able to reach a whole new community of people with our ‘Good Different’ shopping experience.
“We know for many customers visiting ALDI Mackay; it will be their first time ever shopping in an ALDI store. There are a few small differences they may notice that separate us from other supermarkets such as our curated range of exclusive brands, streamlined operations, and our coin deposit trolleys. These differences allow us to cut out unnecessary costs and pass these savings on to customers. In 2023 alone, ALDI shoppers saved $3.4 billion on their grocery bills. That’s real money back in the pockets of Australian families,” Ms Post said.
“Our Price Promise remains the same from the day we opened our first store over 20 years ago – we won’t be beaten on the cost of your weekly shop. We look forward to welcoming the residents of Mackay to the store so they can discover the savings that can be made for themselves.”
Mackay residents can experience ALDI’s famous Special Buys aisle with new products going on sale every Wednesday and Saturday. The Mackay store will offer an exclusive range of Special Buys for the grand opening including a 50″ 4K Ultra HD TV with webOS for just $379 and Philips Compact Party Speaker for just $79.99.
For Mackay locals who are shopping at ALDI for the first time, ALDI’s shopping expert Kylie Warnke has curated a list of “must try” products new to ALDI customers should pick up.
“Customers who haven’t shopped with us before, should grab a trolley token (just 99c!) and head in store to check out our quality offering. We are confident that it’s not only the prices that will delight customers in the Townsville area but also the amazing quality of our exclusive brands, which are consistently award winning,” says Ms Warnke.
Making a ‘Good Difference’Mackay customers have more to feel good about than ALDI’s prices. In August 2020, ALDI became the “first” Australian supermarket to commit to 100% renewable electricity, achieving this in June of 2021. All ALDI Australia stores, offices and warehouses are now fully powered by renewable electricity.
“In addition to being completely powered by renewable electricity, in 2019, ALDI also committed to reducing plastic packaging by 25% and ensuring 100% of packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. ALDI Australia recently won Finder’s ‘Green Supermarket of the Year’ award, recognising the company’s ambition and progress in its sustainability efforts,” the retailer said.
All 35 part time and full time employees joining the ALDI Mackay team will be bringing to life the ALDI values and mission. “As a responsible employer ALDI offers every employee a salary above market rates, comprehensive training, employee wellness programs and paid parental leave.”
