New Zealand All Blacks Vs. Fiji Rugby Live Updates And Scores ...

20 Jul 2024

New Zealand All Blacks will take on the Fiji Flying Fijians in a test match at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego. The meeting will be historic, as it will be the first-ever NZ-Fiji match on American soil (and first on a neutral site).

The game serves not only as a top-10 clash of rugby juggernauts, but a crucial test for the U.S., which is gearing up to host the Men's Rugby World Cups in 2031 and Women's in 2033.

The All Blacks, ranked No. 3 in World Rugby Rankings, are introducing six new players, including Billy Proctor and George Bell, as they face the No. 10-ranked Fijians. Proctor will start, earning his first cap.

Fiji have been unable to beat the All Blacks in their seven previous test matches. Their most recent meeting occurred in 2021. However, Fiji is a dangerous rugby squad and NZ will not take them lightly. The Flying Fijians have been ascendant for some time, including their impressive success at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Kickoff will begin at 10:30 p.m.

After a knock-on by Fiji, the All Blacks and the Flying Fijians are in a scrum close to the try line.

NZ too powerful in the scrum and gain possession on a lineout.

Proctor Scores In First Cap; 19-5

Billy Proctor, who made his debut appearance today for New Zealand, scores for the All Blacks. Proctor slid through the try line while being tackled.

Damian McKenzie misses a tough conversion.

This is the All Blacks third try of the game in just under 30 minutes.

Botitu Scores For Fiji; 14-5

Beautiful play from Fiji. Kicked ahead to Semi Radradra before he offloaded to Vilimoni Botitu for the score. Kick is missed.

Hard to believe this ball made it into the hands of Botitu.

Fiji Advancing In NZ End Of Field

Fiji made inroads against the New Zeland defense, quickly getting up the field before a penalty on the All Blacks.

The crowd here in San Diego appreciated the effort from the Flying Fijians.

Clarke Has An NFL Arm ????

For what it's worth, Caleb Clarke, who scored the first try of the day for the All Blacks, has shown off his throwing arm before.

Damian McKenzie converts the kick.

All Blacks Score First Try; 7-0

Damien McKenzie converts the kick.

All Blacks Making Progress; 4'

New Zealand crashed up the field. Making the most progress of the game so far, for either team, before the ball was coughed up.

Stoppage in play now for a penalty.

Fiji, All Blacks Feeling Game Out

Both teams are kicking back and forth, with one ball from the All Blacks nearly rolling past the try line. Luckily for Fiji, the ball hit the pole of the upright.

National Anthems Taking Place Shortly

All Blacks Visited San Diego In 1980

It's been over 40 years since the New Zealand All Blacks played in San Diego, California. In 1980, the All Blacks visited for an unofficial match against the USA. All Blacks defeated the Eagles that day 53-6.

Though the USA rugby team had been around for awhile, it was still in its infancy in the 1980s. The Eagles made their first Rugby World Cup appearance in 1987.

— FloRugby (@FloRugby) July 18, 2024Six Debuts For All Blacks

FloRugby expert Philip Bendon wrote earlier this week about the uncapped players added to the All Blacks squad before their San Diego bout with Fiji.

New Zealand head coach Scott Robertson has named six debutants for his side’s upcoming clash with Fiji in San Diego on Friday evening.

Of the six potential debutants, just one will start, as highly touted Hurricanes center Billy Proctor gets the nod in the No. 13 shirt outside of the experienced Anton Lienart-Brown.

While Proctor is guaranteed to earn his first cap, provided he doesn’t pick a training injury before kickoff, the other five potential debutants of George Bell, Pasilio Tosi, Sam Darry, Wallace Sititi and Noah Hotham all will hope Robertson calls their names later in the contest.
