UFC Fight Night: Moreno vs Albazi Main Card Results Mike Malott defeats Trevin Giles by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

The welterweight main card opener between Mike Malott and Trevin Giles turned into more of a technical chess match than most would have anticipated, with the duo engaging in a cat-and-mouse clash that went the distance.

Malott was the more active of the two, utilizing far more kicks than he had in his previous UFC appearances, varying his targets the whole way, while Giles was far more selective when it came to letting loose with his weapons. The Texas native landed a smattering of quality shots over the course of the contest, but had stretches where his output just wasn’t there.

Malott kept the Canadian hot streak going by claiming a unanimous decision win, marking the first time in his career that he’s earned a victory without securing a finish. This was a good bounce-back win for the Ontario native, who came up short in his homecoming bout against Neil Magny earlier this year in Toronto. | Prelim Results | Official Scorecard

Dustin Stoltzfus defeats Marc-Andre Barriault by KO (right hook) at 4:28 of Round 1

What started as a wrestling match turned into a hockey fight between Dustin Stoltzfus and Marc-Andre Barriault, with the American based in Germany collecting the first-round knockout win.

Stoltzfus put Barriault on the deck almost immediately, controlling him on the canvas for the majority of the opening round, including climbing to mount at one point.

But when they scrambled to their feet in the final 90 seconds of the frame, the two middleweights grabbed collar ties and started swinging, with each man landing in tight before Stoltzfus put a right hook on the jaw of Barriault that sent him twisting to the canvas in a heap.

This was an outstanding finish from the consistently entertaining Stoltzfus, who picked up his third win in his last five fights and his first knockout win in the UFC. A member of the Dana White’s Contender Series Class of 2020, he’s now 16-6 overall and has further cemented his standing as a must-see, all-action competitor in the 185-pound weight class. | Prelim Results | Official Scorecard

Jasmine Jasudavicius defeats Ariane da Silva by submission (D’Arce choke) at 2:28 of Round 3

Jasmine Jasudavicius continued her outstanding 2024 campaign, picking up a dominant win over Ariane da Silva to register her third win of the year.

After a sluggish start to the fight, Jasudavicius caught a kick and ran da Silva to the ground in the late stages of the first, immediately opening up with offense. In the second, she was all over da Silva as soon as she put her back on the mat, finishing the frame unleashing a torrent of unanswered strikes that had the referee taking a closer look.

Once she got da Silva down in the third, the Canadian went hunting for the finish, locking up the D’Arce choke to close out a tremendous performance.

The Niagara Top Team representative has now won five of her last six and six of eight in the UFC. She should leapfrog da Silva in the rankings when they update next week, and could be looking at a date with a Top 10 opponent next time out after an outstanding finish in Edmonton. | Prelim Results | Official Scorecard

Brendson Ribeiro defeats Caio Machado by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

The light heavyweight clash between Brendson Ribeiro and Caio Machado initially took some of the wind out of the sails of the otherwise raucous crowd at Rogers Place on Saturday night before heating up a little down the stretch.

For the majority of the fight, the two men alternated between trading looping punches and kicks to all levels and not being able to land anything of real substance. Business picked up in the third, where each man was able to connect with a few more power shots, injecting energy back into the building before the final horn sounded.

When the scorecards were totalled, it was Ribeiro that came away on the favorable side of the split decision verdict, registering his first victory inside the Octagon. For Machado, it’s a third consecutive loss since graduating from Dana White’s Contender Series last season, and leaves Canadian fighters with a 6-3 record on the night. | Prelim Results | Official Scorecard

Erin Blanchfield defeats Rose Namajunas by unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47)

The five-round co-main event between Erin Blanchfield and Rose Namajunas played out as a tale of two halves.

In the first two rounds, the two-time strawweight champ Namajunas got the better of the exchanges on the feet, working behind her sharp jab to out-strike Blanchfield. But as the fight progressed, the New Jersey native began clawing her way back into the fight, her constant presence in Namajunas’ face and ability to control things on the canvas for much of the third and fifth rounds leaving the outcome hanging on how the judges scored the competitive fourth round.

When the tens and nines were added up, it was Blanchfield that came out ahead on the cards, earning 48-47 scores across the board. This was a massive win for the 25-year-old, who put herself right back into the championship mix after dropping a decision to Manon Fiorot earlier this year. | Prelim Results | Official Scorecard

Brandon Moreno defeats Amir Albazi by unanimous decision (49-46, 50-45, 50-45)

Brandon Moreno put himself back in the win column with a championship-caliber effort against Amir Albazi to wrap up the UFC’s return to Edmonton on Saturday night.

From the outset, Moreno was a step ahead of Albazi, getting the better of the striking exchanges and forcing the talented Iraqi to fight on his terms. His swift jab and sharp hooks kept Albazi off balance and out of rhythm, resulting in Moreno opening up a three-round lead heading into the championship frames.

It was more of the same there, as the two-time former champion continued to batter Albazi and distance himself from his game, resilient foe.

The scorecards were merely a formality, as Moreno had clearly done enough to garner the victory. After suffering consecutive split decision losses and a brief hiatus to reset, the wildly popular “Assassin Baby” is once again moving in the right direction and a prominent figure in the flyweight title picture. | Prelim Results | Official Scorecard
