Wimbledon 2023 LIVE: Stefanos Tsitsipas beats Andy Murray after ...
Andy Murray is out of Wimbledon after Stefanos Tsitsipas battled from two sets to one down to win a two-day epic on Centre Court.
Murray was a set away from reaching the third round on Thursday night when the match was suspended at 10:40pm due to the Wimbledon curfew.
The fourth set was close when the contest resumed on Friday afternoon and went to a tiebreak, which Tsitsipas edged to level the match and force the decider.
The fifth seed then broke Murray early in the fifth and held serve to close out a 7-6 6-7 4-6 7-6 6-4 win in four hours and 40 minutes of total play.
The defeat will be crushing for Murray after the 36-year-old stood a set away from victory, but Tsitsipas proved too strong once the match resumed. Follow live updates, scores and results from SW19 below.

Another close challenge from Martic goes against her as a forehand return lands mere centimetres out of play. She’s getting joy from Swiatek’s second serve which is softer and sits up for her opponents.
The World No. 1 moves 30-0 up but Martic fights back a smash winner then a drop shot that Swiatek scoops wide. 30-30.
Swiatek holds! She’s in control of the set now.

As if annoyed with herself for dropping the last game Swiatek goes after Martic’s serve and earns a couple of break points. It only takes one thanks to an overhead, backhand volley from the net. That’s a great shot and Swiatek records the third break of the set.

Swiatek is very good at controlling matches when she gets ahead. The No.1 seed has the lead early in this first set but is giving up too many points on her serve to be comfortable.
Martic drills a cross court forehand to move 0-30 in front. Swiatek responds brilliantly and draws back level before an aggressive rally from Martic sees her come up to the net and dominate through volleys to earn a break point.

There’s a bit of pressure on Swiatek who finds herself needing to save two early break points in this match. The first is saved with a lovely forehand across the court before Martic takes her on and overhits an attempted winner.
At deuce Swiatek whips one into the net to give the Croat another chance to break. She goes long again and doesn’t quite get the ball to drop in time.
Swiatek eventually close out the game.

Murray: “This was an opportunity for me to go on a run. I didn’t take it.
Murray on how confident he is he will be back next year: “I don’t know. The motivation will be there but early losses at major tournaments don’t help with that. It’s similar to last year. I had a long think and talk with my family. I don’t plan to stop right now. This one will take a while to get over but I want to find the motivation to go again.”

Murray is only finding out now that his backhand return at 15-30 at 4-4 in the fourth set, which was called out, was actually in.
He freezes. He didn’t know, and he puts his head in his hands as he finds out. He says we would have likely won the point - and it would have given him two break points.

Martic gets the first game going and despite a bit of fight from Swiatek manages to hold serve.

The 36-year-old is not blaming anything on last night’s curfew: “We knew the situation going into the match. The same result could have happened. We knew it was unlikely someone could have won the fourth set. It seemed like a reasonable time to stop.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas gave an on court interview after his five-set thriller against Andy Murray saying:
“It’s never easy against Andy, I know. Everyone loves him here. It was a very difficult game and I’m impressed how well he holds up after his hip surgeries and his level today. I wish him the best in the future.
“It was nerve-racking. It was an obstacle and it’s extra difficult when you’ve grown up watching him play on this court.
“I had goosebumps when he won his first Wimbledon title and his courageous run in 2012.
“I looked up to him, Roger (Federer) Novak (Djokovic) and Rafa (Nadal) so these four guys shaped the game and they are reason I am the player I am today.”

This five set match had just two breaks of serve. One for Andy Murray in the third set and a deciding one for Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fifth set. It was a glorious match but one that was not to be for Murray.

Tsitipas misses another first serve but makes up for it with a wonderful backhand to the far corner which brings him level again. The Greek serves and volleys to get ahead and he’s buzzing with energy.

A standing ovation for Eubanks from Court 1 - he played absolutely sublimely, the match of his life, and fully deserved the victory.
Norrie also gets clapped off but make no mistake, he’ll be disappointed with this loss.

A second serve with bounce and spin is skewed out of play to send Murray 40-0 up and he forces a tiebreak with a cracking serve down the T.

The Brit needs to hold here to force a tiebreak.

That momentum is halted by a loose shot from Murray who knocks one out of play - hawkeye shows the ball was in fact in though Murray didn’t challenge.
An ace takes Tsitsipas within one point of taking the game but Murray levels! Deuce.
It’s nice play from the Greek though who powers a forehand to the left corner, sends Murray sprinting across court then follows up with a slice volley to move to advantage. He holds when Murray fails to get back a drop shot.

There’s an intake of nervous breaths when Murray knocks the ball out of play in the next rally but the cheers follow thanks to a serve that the Greek cannot return.

Really smart tennis from Murray to coast into the net and put away the backhand volley into the empty side of the court. Lovely variety.
And again, mixing it up, Tsitsipas desperate for a slug fest from the back of the court, but the Scot won’t allow him, a tidy volley moves him to game point.
Explosive from Tsitsipas and Murray’s scrambling, the most delicate drop shot at the net sees Murray pegged back to deuce. A booming first serve then gives the two-time champion game point.
Just as Tsitsipas is getting on top, Murray grinds it out, two games apiece.

Thunderous forehand from Eubanks, which survives a challenge, clips the back of the line to bring up deuce but he promptly goes long for a second set point. And this time, NORRIE TAKES IT TO WIN THE SECOND SET! A forehand winner and we’re level at a set apiece.

And finally, the Brit sees out the game as his opponent goes long. Hard work but a vital hold!

To add insult to injury, news of her fitness struggles on Court 18 had clearly not reached an international reporter, who opened her post-match press conference by congratulating her on her victory, prompting a toe-curling exchange.

Andy Murray gave Wimbledon fans a major boost as he eased injury fears ahead of the resumption of his second-round battle with Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Murray leads the Greek by two sets to one after a storming comeback under the lights on Centre Court - before the match was suspended due to the 11pm curfew on Thursday night.
But it came after a worrying moment late in the third set as the 36-year-old slipped behind the baseline and let out a horrifying scream as he crumpled to a heap on the grass.

He quickly gets the job done on his return to court and wins a third set tiebreak against Adrian Mannarino to complete a straigh set victory 6-3 6-3 7-6 (7-5).
The third seed will go on to play either American Marcos Giron or Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics, who are currently playing on court nine.
Fucsovics leads by two sets to one and has just broken serve in the fourth.

Good news from the Aorangi practice courts! Murray is back on court and hitting with practice partner Jonny O’Mara. I didn’t see the whole session but from what I saw, Murray’s movement wasn’t restricted and he wasn’t wearing any obvious strapping. Hopefully that’s a positive sign ahead of the resumption of his battle against Tsitsipas, but of course the Greek and his vicious forehand will be far more of a strenuous test.

The two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova coasts through to the third round with the simplest of victories over Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
The 33-year-old ninth seed broke the Belarusian for a sixth time on court two to sow up a deserved 6-2 6-2 victory in just 74 minutes.
