Minneapolis/St. Paul – The NBA today named Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards as the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Nov. 12. Edwards finished the week averaging 31.3 points per game on 47.4% shooting, including 84.8% from the free throw line. He also averaged 6.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Following the 4-0 week by the Timberwolves, he ranks 10th in the NBA in scoring (28.4 ppg). Edwards' 256 points so far this season are the most by a Timberwolves player through the first nine games of a season.

The 6-4 guard has helped the Timberwolves to a 7-2 record this season, including a perfect 5-0 record at Target Center after Wednesday night's 122-101 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. This marks the third time Minnesota has won seven of its first nine games of a season, joining 1998-99 (7) and 2001-02 (8). The Wolves have won six straight games, tied for the longest active streak in the Western Conference.

In the 114-109 overtime win over the Boston Celtics on Nov. 6, Edwards began the week with a season-high 38 points on 15-of-25 shooting, his second consecutive 30+ point performance and third in his last four starts. Edwards added nine rebounds and a game-high seven assists, marking his first 35+ point/5+ rebound/5+ assist game this season (eighth career). Edwards had eight points in the overtime period against Boston on 4-of-6 shooting, the most points scored in a single overtime period by a Timberwolves player since D’Angelo Russell scored eight points on Nov. 27, 2021, at Philadelphia (2OT).

Edwards' stellar play continued during the 122-101 victory on Nov. 8 against New Orleans, leading the way for the Timberwolves with a game-high 26 points, a season-high and game-high-tying eight assists, three steals and two blocks, his third consecutive 25+ point game and fifth such game of the season (97th career). The performance marked Edwards’ third consecutive 25+ point/5+ assist game and fourth such game this season (67th career). He tallied all eight of his assists in the first half, a career-high for any half. His previous high was seven (2x; MR: second half vs. Chicago on Dec. 18, 2022).

Edwards wrapped up the week with another sensational performance, this time on the road against the Warriors on Nov. 13, finishing with 33 points on 11-of-27 shooting, including a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line, his first career 30+ point game while going perfect from the line (min. 10 FTA). Last night was Edwards’ fourth 30+ point performance of the season and 41st of his career, breaking a tie with Andrew Wiggins (40) for the fourth-most 30+ point games in franchise history.

Joel Embiid from the Philadelphia 76ers was this week’s Player of the Week from the Eastern Conference.
