On Saturday, November 30, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin came together to celebrate their 20-year-old daughter Apple Martin, who made her society debut at the Le Bal des Débutantes. The Paris event introduces young women into society, with past debutantes including stars like Lily Collins and Margaret Qualley.

Paltrow shared a carousel from their trip on Instagram the next day, including some shots of her ex-husband, captioning the post, “A special long weekend in Paris.”

For her debut, Apple wore a custom blue Valentino gown that took the atelier 750 hours to make, according to Vogue. Her mother also wore a Valentino design, a long black gown covered in ruffles.

Here’s everything to know about the new debutante and her life with two of the entertainment industry’s biggest names.

Who is Apple Martin?

Apple Blythe Alison Martin was born on May 14, 2004. Her middle name Blythe is in honor of her grandmother, Blythe Danner, the mom of actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

Paltrow and Martin had their son, Moses, two years later. The couple eventually split in 2014, but have remained friends and co-parents since. They were both there when Apple graduated from high school in 2022.

“Congratulations to all of the graduates especially @applemartin,” Paltrow wrote at the time.

Apple has gone on to attend Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, but has an interest in modeling and fashion. She attended her first fashion show in 2023, the Chanel Couture show, and sat front row with Lucy Boynton, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink, and Belgian singer Angèle.

Ahead of the event, Apple spoke with Vogue about her fashion fascination.

“It was so exciting to see the art in the designs, and the theme of the line emerge throughout the show,” she shared. “My favorite looks from the show were the dropped-waist short tweed looks, and the white floor-length dresses...I really enjoy keeping up with fashion.”

She wore a a black and white tweed dress by Chanel from the label’s spring 2023 collection, saying, “I wanted my look to encapsulate Chanel’s timelessness, while adding edge with a strong eye look. My favorite part of the look was the combination of the loafers and the minidress. It’s something that felt very true to my own style.”

When Apple made her appearance, fashion insider Derek Blasberg posted a story about the late Karl Lagerfeld meeting Apple as a baby and telling her parents she’d grow up to be “a Chanel girl.”

Paltrow seemed to confirm the story in a comment, writing, “Actually, she was ONE.”

How did Paltrow and Martin raise her after divorcing?

In 2023, Paltrow told People how she and Martin maintained a good relationship after “consciously uncoupling.”

“He has this sweet child-like spirit, and I love that he will be like, ‘Let's go jump in the ocean,’ when it’s 58 degrees or ‘Let's go to this weird guitar store,’” she shared. “He always wants to do these fun adventures with them and activities.”

She added that he “has a real sweetness. And so he brings that to the way that he parents them... He’s sort of gone a lot, he’s on the road a lot, but he brings—it’s almost like he comes and sprinkles fairy dust.”

In an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2020, she said similar things.

“It’s like you're ending a marriage but you're still in a family,” Paltrow said. “That’s how it will be forever…. We also have good days and bad days, but I think it’s driving toward the same purpose of unity and love and what’s best for [our kids].”

Does Apple Martin have social media?

It seems like the college student keeps her social media profiles private, but her mom posts about her and how much she’s inspired by her on Instagram. Like in this 2022 post from International Women’s Day, in which she wrote, “This woman gives me hope for the future of sisterhood, and for the future of our planet. And this woman has made me the woman I am today more than anyone else.”
