Liam Payne has died in Argentina, police say

Former One Direction band member Liam Payne has died, aged 31. 

He was in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires, where he was found dead after falling from a hotel's third floor.

Emergency services confirm singer had 'serious injuries incompatible with life'

Head of the Buenos Aires public emergency medical services, Alberto Crescenti, said Payne fell around 14 metres, suffering "very serious injuries incompatible with life".

"At 17:04, local time, through 911, the integrated public security system, we were alerted about a person who was in an internal courtyard of the Casa Sur hotel," Crescenti said.

"At 17:11, a team arrived and confirmed the man's death.

"We later learned that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries incompatible with life as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death. There was no possibility of resuscitation."

Head of the state emergency medical system Alberto Crescenti says Liam Payne fell into a courtyard of the CasaSur Hotel.

The hotel is in Buenos Aires.

Crescenti has declined to comment on whether Payne jumped or fell by accident.
