After being the most-nominated artist this year, Royel Otis has had a big night at the2024 ARIA Awards in partnership with YouTube after receiving four Awards for their acclaimed album PRATTS & PAIN in tonight's ceremony at Hordern Pavillion on Gadigal land.
Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic, last year’s nominees for the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist, have had an explosive year. Named by the GRAMMYs as one of the top 25 artists to watch, PRATTS & PAIN has swept the 2024 ARIA Awards with Best Group presented by Stan, Best Rock Album, Engineer - Best Engineered Release (Chris Collins), and Producer - Best Produced Release (Chris Collins).
Back in Sydney for the 2024 ARIA Awards amidst his Aussie tour – and fresh off his iconic US SWEAT tour with Charli XCX – Troye Sivan lit up the red carpet and cleaned up with three of the night’s biggest awards. Winning Album of the Year, Best Solo Artist, and Best Pop Release, Troye’s impressive sweep brings his ARIA collection to a total of nine Awards.
Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers opened the night in the room with a standout performance and taking home their first ARIA for Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist; it was also a breakout evening for Angie McMahon who captivated the crowd with a stunning performance that left everyone in awe, followed by her well-deserved win for Best Independent Release presented by PPCA.
This year, the 2024 ARIA Awards delivered unforgettable artist collaborations that celebrated the richness of Australia's diverse music scene. Best Country Album winner Troy Cassar-Daley took the stage alongside U.S. country superstar Kane Brown with a surprise vocal from iconic Australian artist Kasey Chambers in a heartfelt performance that brought the house down.
Jessica Mauboy joined forces with Best Hip Hop/Rap and Best Cover Art winners 3% and electronic legend Julian Hamilton from The Presets for a stunning and moving performance of Won’t Stop and Our People. CYRIL, Becca Hatch, and Budjerah created a soulful, genre-bending moment, captivating the audience with their unique synergy and showcasing the depth of emerging talent in Australian music.
Hometown hero The Kid LAROI brought down the house, while global superstar Ava Max took the stage for an electrified performance of Sweet but Psycho, Kings & Queens and Forever Young; and the Pixies shocked the crowd with a surprise appearance and world TV exclusive with Where Is My Mind in celebration of Support Act and Ausmusic T-Shirt Day.
Closing out the show in spectacular style was Missy Higgins, 2024 ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, alongside friends Amy Shark, Angie McMahon, Gretta Ray, and G flip, who once again cemented themselves as one of Australia’s most loved artists winning Song of the Year by YouTube for The Worst Person Alive.
Other winners included Dom Dolla, whose phenomenal year showed no signs of slowing down, earning the 2024 ARIA Award for Best Dance/Electronic Release with his hit Saving Up amid the global explosion of Australian electronic music.
And in a heartwarming moment, Darwin-based DJ and producer CYRIL presented the ARIA Music Teacher Award to Nathaniel Miller of Bulman School, Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.
More winners on the night included Tkay Maidza for Best Soul/R&B release, Emily Wurramara for Best Adult Contemporary Album, SPEED for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album, Mia Dyson for Best Blues & Roots Album, Bluey for Best Children’s Album, Tones And I (Nick Kozakis and Sela Vai) for Best Video Presented by YouTube, Missy Higgins for Best Australian Live Act presented by Destination NSW, Taylor Swift for Most Popular International Artist, Midlife for Best Jazz Album and DOBBY for Best World Music Album. Among the presenters handing out the evening’s Awards were Artemas, Ava Max, Budjerah, Fanning Dempsey National Park, CYRIL, Christian Wilkins, Ella Hooper, Concetta Caristo and Luka Muller, Daniel Seavey, Emily Wurramara, Fanny Lumsden, G Flip, Grinspoon, Hannah Conda, Jenna Owen, King, Kween Kong, Latifa Tee, Magda Szubanski, Nic Cester, Richard Wilkins, Rove McManus, Tkay Maidza and Vic Zerbst.
Hosted by Tim Blackwell joined by Bridget Hustwaite, Latifa Tee, Christian Wilkins, and Rhys Nicholson, the ARIA Awards streamed live across Stan, followed by a special presentation on Channel 9 from 8.30pm with performances and moments also available on the @ARIA.official YouTube channel.
