Ash Barty celebrates son Hayden's first birthday

Ash Barty has celebrated son Hayden's first birthday alongside husband Garry Kissick and with the help of an adorable hedgehog cake.

In a photo shared on social media the proud parents are posing with their son.

A '1' candle on the hedgehog cake has been lit, ready to sing 'Happy Birthday' to the little boy.

Barty, 27, posted the photo along with the caption: "Cake for breakfast ????."

Former Australian tennis player Casey Dellacqua commented, "Get it boy. Happiest 1st bday gorgeous boy ???? see you for the biggest birthday cuddle soon ????"

Former Olympic swimmer Libby Trickett said: "Happy birthday Hayden! Well done mum and dad for surviving the first year x."

Former Diamonds netballer Catherine Coxy commented: "ALWAYS a good idea!"

Fans also took to the comments section of Barty's post to share their sentiments including one who described Hayden as a "cutie pie."

Barty recently launched a tennis-themed book called Tennis Camp Diaries.

Barty retired from the sport two years ago at the height of her career in 2022. She welcomed her baby son Hayden in July 2023.

Speaking to 9honey for the annual Bonds BabySearch campaign, of which Barty and Hayden are the faces, the former athlete says past tennis tournaments don't come close to to the trials and tribulations of new parenthood.

"I have so much admiration for parents now I have a child of my own – being a parent is the hardest but the best thing in the world," Barty said.

"I don't think anything quite prepares you for motherhood!

"For me it's been a huge learning curve and the most wonderful experience of my life. It's not comparable to anything else."

She described her son as a "happy, relaxed little boy."

"He is a beautiful baby and I am enjoying every minute with him, I know how quickly the time passes."

Barty spoke of life after her monumental career decision.

"I have a pretty simple life at home and don't go out very much," she said.

"We tend to focus on the little things and spending lots of time together as a family, that's what I enjoy the most."
