"I really didn't want to make this about myself ... this will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats at an international level," Ashwin told reporters after the third Test was declared a draw.

"I do feel there's a bit of punch left in me as a cricketer but I would like to showcase that in club level cricket.

"I've had a lot of fun, I've made a lot of memories with Rohit (Sharma) and several of my other teammates, even though we've lost some of them over the last couple of years.

"We are last bunch of OGs, if we can say that."

Ashwin finishes with 106 Tests, 116 ODIs and 65 T20Is to his name.

The off-spinner described it as an "emotional moment" and didn't wish to take questions after making his statement.

"I don't think I'm in a position where I'd be answering the questions in the right way," he said.

In his parting comments, Ashwin took the chance to take one light-hearted dig at the journalists present in the press room.

"Thanks for being the journalists you've been, writing good things and of course nasty things on occasions," he said with a laugh.

"That's a relationship I think I will maintain forever."
