Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has contained a large fire at an auto repair shop in Auburn in Sydney’s south-west.
More than 100 firefighters and 20 fire trucks remain on scene at the incident in an industrial area in Stubbs Street as the fire continues to smoulder.
It took crews approximately two hours to contain the intense fire which started around 6.00pm.
At the height of the blaze, three aerial ladder platforms were used to douse the flames from above and RPAS (drones) were deployed to gain situational awareness.
The roof of the building where the fire started has collapsed however firefighters have protected neighbouring properties including an adjoining timber flooring warehouse and a petrol station.
It is currently unsafe for firefighters to enter the collapsed building to fully extinguish the blaze.
A number of people were evacuated from surrounding businesses and residents in the wider area are being urged to stay inside, close windows and doors as there is a large amount of smoke in the vicinity.
Two people in the auto repair shop have been transported to hospital suffering smoke inhalation and burns.
Operations are ongoing and expected to continue throughout the night.
Parramatta Road is closed in both directions between Rawson Street and St Hilliers Road. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and check LiveTraffic for updates.
