AUSTRALIA CUP: Round of 32 opponents confirmed
A trip to Perth awaits as we gear up for our first competitive fixture of the new campaign.
Your City boys will venture out west to face the Glory in the Australia Cup Round of 32 following a strong performance from the team in purple on Tuesday night.
Perth faced Brisbane for one of the final spots in the last 32 and despite going down in the first half, put in a convincing performance to come-from-behind and run away 4-2 winners in Darwin.
It sets up our first match of the new campaign, which will be played on Saturday 3 August at the Sam Kerr Football Centre and kick off at 7:30pm (AEST).
With our first match of the campaign now locked in, Aurelio Vidmar’s side turns its full attention to the Glory and securing a place in the final 16.
Currently in the third week of pre-season, new signing Kai Trewin is firming for a debut in City blue, while Argentine defender Germán Ferreyra could also feature after joining the team in training this week.
It will mark only our second meeting against Perth Glory in the Australia Cup, although that clash was way back in 2015 – the home Glory side securing a place in the decider with a 3-1 Semi Final win.
In more recent history, City had the bragging rights last season winning two of the three A-League Men’s fixtures between teams including a record-breaking 8-0 win at home – although the games in Perth were split win one apiece.
