17th over - Bumrah to Marnus

Labuschagne is coming off a fine 64 in Adelaide, so he'll hope to get through this early Bumrah blast and get into his work on his home ground.

He's looking busy early. Knows what he wants to do, and that's feel bat on ball.

Got him! Khawaja is gone for 21

Length ball from Bumrah and Khawaja is stuck on the crease to defend, but he's got just the faintest of outside edges.

It took a while for umpire Richard Illingworth to raise the finger, but he eventually does and Khawaja walks straight off.

Marnus Labuschagne replaces his Queensland teammate. Can he carry over his fine Adelaide form to his home patch?

17th over - Jasprit Bumrah to Usman Khawaja

16th over - Akash Deep needs to keep the pressure on

He has Nathan McSweeney in two minds outside off, but it seems the rookie opener's first instinct is to leave. He's really taking his Marnus Labuschagne similarities to the Nth degree.

McSweeney is still yet to use his bat. Akash is edging closer and closer to the off stump.

He's already batting outside his crease, but then takes a stride towards Akash on the last ball of the over ... and leaves again.

15th over - Jasprit Bumrah has the ball in hand

And Usman Khawaja is straight into the runs, playing back to a shortish ball and punching through cover for two. Like a more elegant, left-handed Joe Root.

Big shout for LBW. Huge. The umpire says no thank you. The Indians convene for a potential review, but it was definitely too high as it hit above the pad. Good call from Rohit Sharma not to review.

Beaten outside off. And again! Front foot and back foot, Khawaja just feeling for it a little bit, and a hint of seam movement takes the ball perilously close to the outside edge.

Excellent finish to the over from Bumrah.

Akash Deep is going to finish off the 14th over

And Nathan McSweeney is leaving to start.

The ball hasn't swung yet, so the Indian attack may have to rely on seam movement to make inroads.

The sunshine is so bright. It's glorious.

No bat on ball from the first four deliveries of the day. McSweenet is in no rush as he moves to 4 off 38.

The players are coming onto the field

The sun is shining, then ducking behind the clouds, then breaking through again.

But, most importantly, it's dry. Let's get it on!

Five quick hits from a rain-soaked day one

If you don't have time to wade through Dean's words (you should, they're good) here are a few quick, bite-sized chunks to consume before play kicks off today.

What we learned from the brief cricket we've seen

It was only 80 balls, but from what we saw on day one, India could have rued its decision to bowl first on day one in Brisbane.

For the first time this series, we didn't see a wicket in the first 11 overs of a team's first innings and it was the most playable Jasprit Bumrah has looked all series.

Perhaps, as Dean Bilton suggests, the rain may have saved Rohit Sharma from "pulling a Nasser" and the tourists can now rethink, reload and return renewed.

Cloudy with a chance of cricket balls

We've already seen an injury on the field this morning during India's slips training.

A makeshift Indian cordon including Sarfaraz Khan, Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal and a few others were practicing their catching when, somehow, two balls were thrown back to assistant coach Nuwan Seneviratne at the same time.

One of them beamed him in the side of the head and the entire Indian set-up rushed to check on him. Looks like he shook it off OK, but he was down for quite a few minutes.

What to expect from today's weather

How's the rain, and how does the pitch look?

- Watcher

Look, it's certainly far from a clear day, and the BOM is forecasting rain for sure.

It doesn't look like it's going to be as bad as yesterday, but I'd be surprised, regardless of over rates, if we saw anything close to the 98 overs that are supposed to be bowled today.

As far the rest of the Test, the forecast isn't looking great...

Play starts at 9:50am AEST today

So, play started yesterday at the scheduled 10:20am AEST on day one, but we lost so much time that we're kicking off half an hour early today and throughout the Test.

So expect play in half an hour's time.

ICYMI: It rained in Brisbane yesterday

Could we see some cricket today?

Hello and welcome back to the Gabba for the second day of the third Test between Australia and India.

After we lost 85 per cent of yesterday's play to torrential and insufferable rain, conditions look far less dire today.

There are still some clouds around, but I'd wager Simon Smale and I will have plenty of cricket to bring you today.

So stick around!
