Live updates: Australia vs Pakistan, first Test in Perth day two
A single off his pads for Imam-ul-Haq first up - he wanted two, or at least one of the pair did initially but there was only one there.
Shafique leaves outside off.
Now he pulls backward of square for a single.
Solid defence from Imam-ul-Haq, Lyon drifting that in and giving it every chance to turn and bite off the middle stump line from over the wicket but there was not a whole lot there.
Imam-ul-Haq smashed the ball back down the ground and has nailed his skipper at the non-strikers end right in the back at 115kph! They run a single but it's come at a cost for Shan Masood, who looks mighty sore.
He's going to need a bit of treatment on that - the spray is out to numb that area. Interestingly, had an Aussie caught the ball off Masood's back, Imam-ul-Haq would have been out. The ball never popped up though, so Travis Head was not in play at mid on.
There's a bit of grip outside off, Lyon puts it out there to tempt Masood, but there's no shot.
RUN OUT CHANCE! MASOOD SLIPS ATTEMPTING A RUN AND THIS MIGHT BE CLOSE!
We're going to have a look, Warner did really well to dive and throw the ball to Carey from point. It looks like the bat is grounded before Carey broke the stumps so it's not out.
But first, it's hammer time. We've spoken about the issues with the take off area, but Hazlewood has had issues with his landing point as well, so the hammer has been brought out to hit that piece of turf into place.
(Getty Images)BEATEN! So close to the outside edge - Hazlewood looks wistful in his follow through as Masood survives another close call.
He pushes this next into the covers for no run.
EDGED! FOUR! A thick edge past the gully, Hazlewood can't catch a break at the moment and Masood continues on his merry way.
Masood leaves the nex couple.
Long shadows across the pitch, Nathan Lyon twirls in and bowls outside off, a bit of turn off the surface but left alone by Imam-ul-Haq.
Now he's forward defending, the Pakistani opener, who has 23 from 106 balls.
Make that 107 as he leaves outside off.
Another solid forward defence from Imam-ul-Haq.
FOUR! Deft, late cut brings up four to third man - that's a gorgeous stroke from Imam-ul-Haq, past the slip and the backward point.
FOUR! Lovely shot from Shan Masood, four runs through square leg, perfect timing.
Bouncer, Masood gets his hands out of the way as Hazlewood comes around the wicket and tries to cramp the number three.
Better line outside off, but well left by Masood.
He leaves another tight one outside off. Well played.
FOUR! Oh that's a lovely stroke, all balance from Masood, waiting on the ball, pushing it back to the long on boundary - exquisite drive.
FOUR! Byes over the head of Masood and Carey! That's taken off from the middle of the pitch - Hazlewood really unhappy with being stroked back past him. Incredible that's not called a wide to be fair on Carey, but that's the breaks sometimes.
Over, eight from it.
Masood defends the first and then leans back and cuts the second for no run to point.
What is Nathan Lyon setting up here? The ball that skids onto the stumps will be dangerous.
Masood defends a straighter ball.
FOUR! Lovely shot, Masood advances and hits a clean stroke back down the ground to the long on boundary. Lovely stroke.
Now he pushes to mid off for a single.
Solid defence from Imam-ul-Haq.
Masood takes a single off his pads - there are three slips waiting as Australia goes into full attack mode.
Leg slip comes in to Imam-ul-Haq, he defends back down the pitch.
Two left handers out there now for Australia to attack.
Hazlewood sends one down past the outside edge, left well alone by Imam-ul-Haq, who needs to regain his concentration - or at least work out with his skipper who is going to be the aggressor in this pairing, if anyone.
He drives back to mid on now for no run.
Now he ducks under a bouncer.
Imam-ul-Haq defends the last.
"Bit of hustle, come on Stevey," Marnus shouts.
Big test this for Pakistan now.
CHANCE! Shan Masood is the new man in and he comes so close to chopping on!
FOUR! Shan Masood advances down the pitch and hammers Lyon through midwicket for four! OK.
Masood pushes through the covers neatly for a single now.
CLOSE! What has that wicket done to Pakistan! Imam-ul-Haq now charges at Lyon and hammers the ball towards wide long off and the ball falls just wide of Mitch Starc!
Pakistan have gone from marathon pace to running the 100 metres.
Wild change.
Key Event
LYON BREAKS THE PARTNERSHIP!!Abdullah Shafique tries to charge and whip through the leg side but didn't get enough on it and clipped it straight at leg slip, where David Warner took a tidy grab. His dream Test continues.
The Aussies are up and about. For as good as this opening pair has been, the Australian bowling attack deserves plenty of credit for maintaining the pressure.
Often in these scenarios they try too many things, but they've just hammered away and given their plans a chance to play out, rather than constantly chopping and changing.
Maybe the change of angle will create something.
He's around the wicket to the leftie.
Big shout for LBW! Not out. And no review. Almost definitely too high.
For sure. On his tip-toes, an hitting him high above the knee roll. No chance.
Drop and run to leg from Shafique. No danger of anything happening, but Imam was very slow off the mark once again. For all the positives this afternoon from these batters, the running has been woeful.
Back over the wicket and seaming away from Imam, who tried to drive on the up and is very lucky not to nick off.
And again! This time not attacking, but playing all around it. Excellent bowling.
Whoa! What's happened here?
Shafique defended to short leg, flicked the ball back to Carey, and he tried to take the bail off as Shafique lifted his back foot. He touched the stump, but the bail didn't come off. Not sure if the foot was up when he touched the bail, but it would've warranted examination.
Too short on the bouncer and he's called for a wide.
Another play and miss from Shafique. He really has been riding his luck today, but as usual with these things, you have to wonder if the Aussies could pitch it up a little more too.
But again he remains nailed to the crease. 39 off 112 and immovable.
The right-hander shuffles down and drives back at Lyon. A clean gather and throw from the bowler would have been interesting.
A big stride forward and drive to cover from Shafique. That wil be encouraging for Lyon.
Four? No, well stopped on the rope by Starc. No, it is four after all. Too short from Lyon and Shafique cuts away. Starc made great ground to track it down inside he rope, but his foot was on the boundary as he reeled it back in.
A bit of life in that one all of a sudden.
FOUR! Imam-ul-Haq has his first boundary of the innings off his 85th delivery faced, guiding one fine off his hip.
Cummins tries around the wicket and at the body of Imam.
He's firing them in at the stumps. Not finding much turn just yet. It's been sporadic at best.
Big shout for caught behind down the leg side and Alex Carey and Marnus Labuschagne love it! Not out, but Pat Cummins reviews. Here we go!
I thought there was a little tickle on it. Either way, excellent wicketkeeping from Alex Carey.
Nothing on hot spot. Nothing on snicko. Shafique lives to fight another day and Australia loses a review.
Bowling in pairs it seems.
Imam cops one on the hip and Shafique wants to scurry through for a single, but Imam wasn't awake to it and Shafique has to chuck a U-ey to get back into his ground.
Three slips and a gully still in place. And he raps Imam on the pads. Too high and outside leg, but still a false stroke.
This is a credit to the Pakistani openers, forcing Australia to search for wickets.
No doubt Pat Cummins and co would have fancied their chances of at least one wicket by now, if not two. Not often this attack goes this long without getting one of the openers.
Imam guides behind point, but he was very close to his body and the off stump there.
Imam manages to work the last ball of the over off his thigh for a single to end the over and farm the strike.
A bit of out-swing from Starc, but pretty short and not really threatening Imam's outside edge.
Starc is a bit wide here.
Full, swinging away and Imam slashes through cover, but can't get enough on it to make it to the rope. Three runs for the ever-watchful leftie.
