Report: Bayern Munich's Kim Min-jae played through thigh injury vs ...
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany made the decision to start the center-back pairing of Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano during the team’s 3-2 win over Wolfsburg.
The duo was not great and the performance displayed some really baffling plays by Min-jae in particular. As it turns out, the South Korean defender entered the match with a thigh injury per Tz journalists Philipp Kessler and Mano Bonke (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):
Kim Min-jae played through a slight muscle injury in his thigh yesterday and was subbed off for Eric Dier after 81 minutes. Christoph Freund is also aware of that, hence he has not completely ruled out a last-minute transfer should an opportunity arise in the next few days.
Further new signings were not really a topic at the club after Stanišić’s injury. Nevertheless, the higher-ups believe that Eberl and Freund could be looking on the market after yesterday’s performance in Wolfsburg.
The decision to play Min-jae through the injury should come into question — especially since the defender was fatigued and battling nagging minor injuries for a good portion of last season.
With Eric Dier fully healthy, there was likely no reason to risk running Min-jae out there if he was that hurt. With Josip Stanišić already out for an extended period, it was a very risky move by Kompany that almost backfired.
Now, the door could be open for Bayern Munich to make one last move during the transfer window — will it be enough?
