Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice—starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega—opens Friday in theaters. How soon will it debut on streaming?

The long-awaited sequel to the classic 1988 supernatural comedy starring Keaton as “The Ghost with the Most,” Beetlejuice Beetlejuice returns to the original film’s setting of Winter River, Connecticut. It’s there where three generations of the Deetz family—Delia (Catherine O’Hara), her stepdaughter, Lydia (Ryder) and Lydia’s daughter, Astrid (Ortega)—are back for the funeral of family patriarch Charles (played in the 1988 film by Jeffrey Jones).

While helping Delia and Lydia clear out the Deetz family home after the funeral, Astrid finds the model of Winter River from 36 years before in the attic—and it’s only a matter of time before somebody says Beetlejuice’s name three times and sets “The Juice” loose.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice also stars Justin Theroux as Lydia’s boyfriend, Rory, Willem Dafoe as Wolf Jackson, an actor in the Afterlife with a penchant for playing cops, and Monica Bellucci as Beetlejuice’s ex-wife, Delores.

Right now, the only way to see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be in theaters. The film will play in Thursday previews before opening in theaters nationwide on Friday. Check your local listings for showtimes.

The first stop for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on video, however, will be on digital streaming via premium video on demand. PVOD services include Prime Video, AppleTV+, VUDU and Google Play. PVOD purchase prices typically range from $24.99 to $29.99, while PVOD rentals—which are good for a 48-hour period once you start watching the movie—generally range from $19.99 to $24.99.

Generally, the amount of time it takes for a theatrical release to debut on PVOD depends on the financial success of the film. If early tracking reports are any indication, fans may be in for a wait to see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice at home.

On Tuesday, Deadline projected will make $100 million to $110 million in North American theaters from Friday to Sunday, September 6-8. The trade publication also estimates that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will make $35 million in international ticket sales in the same frame, which would boost the film’s opening weekend tally to as much as $145 million worldwide.

Essentially, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is poised to become a blockbuster hit for Warner Bros., akin to the studio’s biggest hit of 2024—Dune: Part Two—which grossed $709.8 million worldwide during its theatrical run.

So, using Dune: Part Two as an example of how long it may take Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to come to streaming, it took the the sci-fi action-adventure a little over six weeks (47 days) from the time the film opened in theaters (March 1) to its debut on PVOD (April 16).

If Beetlejuice Beetlejuice experiences similar box office success and follows the Dune: Part Two release pattern, that means it could debut on PVOD sometime around October 22.

Which Subscription Streaming Service Will Get ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ First?

After the debut of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on premium video on demand, it will next be available on streaming video on demand.

Since Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a Warner Bros. movie, its first SVOD stop will be on Max, which is Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform. However, to watch Beetlejuice Beetlejuice when it arrives on Max, you must be a subscriber.

Formerly HBO Max, Max has three different subscription tiers for consumers. For $9.99 per month you can get the service with ads or for $16.99 per month you can watch the streamer’s programming without ads. Lastly, for $20.99 per month, you can stream Max’s programming ad-free and in 4K Ultra HD.

Once again using the release pattern of Dune: Part Two as an example, it took 74 days from the time the film was released in theaters (March 1) until it debuted on Max (May 14). If the Beetlejuice sequel follows suit and it takes 74 days to debut on Max, then it could come to the streaming service sometime around November 19.

In the meantime, Max is streaming home for the original Beetlejuice movie, which was released in 1988, in case you want a refresher before seeing Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in theatres.

Rated PG-13, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice plays in previews on Thursday night before opening Friday in theaters nationwide.
