Dril and AOC Join Bluesky, the Decentralized Twitter

Twitter personalities are making their way to Bluesky, Twitter’s decentralized alternative. The platform has been invite-only and gaining steam in recent days. Now, Dril – the Twitter legend who recently gave an interview as his real-life human self – and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) have officially joined the platform.

Dril’s profile on Bluesky, with the handle @dril.bsky.social, has not tied a domain name to his account. However, Bluesky staff engineer Paul Frazee confirmed that the profile is, in fact, the real deal. Although Dril has been known to dunk on Twitter, it is unclear whether he will move full time to Bluesky soon. But if he stops posting on Twitter, there may be a chance to find his content on Bluesky.

On the other hand, Ocasio-Cortez has also joined Bluesky, with the handle @aoc.bsky.social. She has yet to tie a domain name to her profile, but Bluesky staffer Daniel Holmgren confirmed that the account belongs to her.

Bluesky has seen the most significant single-day jump in its number of users since its creation. As a result, Bluesky will be upgrading its database and will experience a five-minute downtime at 5:30 PM ET.

With two of Twitter’s biggest personalities now on Bluesky, one can only wonder how long until talking about Bluesky on Twitter becomes prohibited. It wouldn’t be unprecedented.

As Twitter continues to face criticism for its content moderation policies, it’s no surprise that some users are willing to give Bluesky, a decentralized Twitter alternative, a try. With the entry of two of Twitter’s biggest personalities, Dril and AOC, Bluesky might soon grow into a New Twitter. However, it remains to be seen if Bluesky can fully replace Twitter or if it’ll have its own niche audience. Whatever the outcome may be, the The News of notable personalities to Bluesky could only help this relatively new platform.
