Bob Hawke College in Subiaco ‘renamed’ in honour of internet icon ‘Hawk Tuah’ girl Haliey Welch

School staff in Perth’s inner-west are at war with Google after tech-savvy trolls changed the high school’s name online to “Bob Hawk Tuah College”.

A receptionist from Bob Hawke College in Subiaco said on Wednesday afternoon that several days ago, they were made aware that the school’s Google name had been changed to “Bob Hawk Tuah College.”

The staffer said the changes had been raised with Google but are yet to be addressed.

The “hawk-tuah” clip that inspired the name change went viral earlier this year after 22-year-old American Haliey Welch made an X-rated comment in a short video clip.

In the video, Welch is approached by a camera and a microphone and says the phrase “hawk-tuah, spit on that thing”.

The young woman has since started a podcast called “Talk Tuah with Haliey Welch,” alongside releasing “hawk-tuah” merchandise.

“Coming off her unprecedented viral moment and the biggest meme of all-time, Haliey Welch is ready to show the world that she’s much more than a 30 second clip, and she’s here to stay,” her podcast account on YouTube says.

The high school opened in the ritzy suburb of Subiaco in February 2020 and was named after former Labor Prime Minister Bob Hawke.

Mr Hawke served as Prime Minister between 1983 and 1991, and he died on the eve of the 2019 Federal election.
