Legendary Australian actor Brian Wenzel dead at 94

Legendary Australian actor Brian Wenzel has died at the age of 94.

It is understood the Logie winner, known for his role as Frank Gilroy in A Country Practice, died in a nursing home in South Australia weeks before his 95th birthday on May 24.

Wenzel began his acting career at the age of 17, and notably starred as Mr Cox in Nine's The Young Doctors.

Best-selling author dies days before TV adaptation debuts

He then played the role of Frank Gilroy on A Country Practice for 12 years.

The role of Gilroy earned Wenzel a Silver Logie Award for Best Actor in 1981.

The performer leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Linda Wenzel.
