Is Danger in danger for sling tackle?

Patrick Dangerfield could be in strife for a dangerous tackle in the third term.

The Geelong captain slung Hugh McCluggage into the ground, with the Lions’ head appeared to hit the turf. It is the sort of action that has been frowned upon by the MRO this year.

The umpires certainly saw it that way, with McCluggage paid a free kick. McCluggage was able to take his kick and play on, which will help Danger’s case.

It was an eventful period, as Lions ruckman Oscar McInerney was subbed out of the game.

McInerney dislocated his shoulder in the first quarter and tried valiantly to play on but by midway through the third term could no longer cope with the pain.

Early Danger signs for the Lions

Patrick Dangerfield has kicked the opening goal of the third quarter after a Dayne Zorko blunder.

Zorko tried to bring the ball back into the corridor from halfback, but his kick was intercepted by an alert Max Holmes.

Holmes then streamed forward and delivered the ball to his captain who was able to run into an open goal.

Cats take crucial lead into long break

The half-time siren has blown and Geelong have a valuable 19-point lead.

In the end, Brisbane did well to weather the storm, considering ruckman Oscar McInerney dislocated his shoulder in the first quarter and looked sore during that second term.

Geelong’s midfield gained the upper hand with Max Holmes and Patrick Dangerfield able to set up a number of scoring opportunities for a dynamic Geelong forward line.

The goal of the night was delivered by some Gryan Miers magic.

In a Wayne Harmes-like magic moment, he ran down a ball before it crossed the boundary line deep in the Geelong pocket and then swivelled on the spot before booting the Sherrin off the ground towards goal. as if he were a soccer star who was sending in a cross.

As the pill scooted across the goal square, Oliver Henry pounced and tapped the ball through with his right foot. It would have made Harmes and his premiership teammate Ken Sheldon proud.

OK, if you are too young to get the Harmes-Sheldon reference, get a parent to explain it to you. Grand final, MCG, 1979, Carlton versus Collingwood.
