The Broncos kept their season alive after overcoming an abysmal start to oust the Eels 30-24 in front of a bumper Suncorp Stadium crowd on Friday night.

Brisbane were playing for their season but you wouldn’t have known it in the opening stages as Kevin Walters’ men produced their worst opening 15 minutes in years.

Parramatta shot out to a 16-0 point lead after just 12 minutes before the hosts finally clicked into gear and scored five unanswered tries between the 32nd and 68th minutes.

The Eels had a chance at the death to send the game to golden point but they coughed it up trying to force the pass in a play that summed up their season.

The result also means the ‘Spoon Bowl’ is still alive, with the Wests Tigers to host the Eels in the final round of the season in a clash that will decide the wooden spoon.

The Broncos are now just one win outside the top eight with two games left to play - against the Dolphins and Storm - with the latter expected to rest players in the final round.
