The Bruce Highway has been closed in both directions at Bororen, south of Gladstone, following a two-vehicle crash involving a truck carrying hazardous materials.
The incident occurred at the intersection of the Bruce Highway and Daisy Dell Road at about 5.15am.
According to reports, a B-double tanker carrying ammonium nitrate and a ute were involved in a head-on collision, causing the tanker to burst into flames.
The Queensland Ambulance Service reports that one patient is being assessed for life-threatening injuries, and the other is in a serious but stable condition.
Emergency services remain on the scene, with a helicopter also deployed.
Nearby homes have been evacuated, with a 2.5km exclusion zone in place. The Queensland Fire Department has issued an alert saying that anyone who is in the area should leave immediately.

The incident is the latest in a tragic series of Bruce Highway accidents involving truckies this week, one of which resulted in the loss of a 29-year-old who died in Gladstone Hospital on Wednesday night.
