Kane marks Bundesliga debut with goal as Bayern win
No striker, however good, wants to wait long for their first goal after a major transfer.
To Harry Kane’s relief the wait since his move from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich was not long.
It took the England captain 64 minutes to break his duck on his Bundesliga debut, helping the Bavarian giants start their title defence with a 4-0 win at Werder Bremen.
Kane had made his debut for Bayern in the 3-0 Super Cup defeat to RB Leipzig last week, though as a second-half substitute he bore little responsibility for the defeat.
Against Bremen, he was in the starting line-up and any early nerves were eased as he provided the assist for Leroy Sane’s opener in the fourth minute.
Kane was denied by Jiri Pavlenka in the 61st, but the keeper couldn’t do anything when he was found by Alphonso Davies completely unmarked and, after some neat footwork, and aided by a slight deflection, shot inside the left-hand post.
“Extremely excited to get the season started with my new club, a massive club like Bayern Munich. For sure there were a few butterflies,” Kane told broadcasters DAZN.
Sane got a brace with a first-time finish in the 90th and Mathys Tel completed the scoring with a stunner in stoppage time.
Kane went down with what looked like cramp in the 82nd minute. He came back to the pitch, but was subbed off shortly after.
Bremen had a goal disallowed in the eighth minute, but couldn’t find their way back into the net in a game dominated by Bayern.
“It was a good night, it was a tough game for sure. We started well with the goal in the first few minutes. Bremen came out in the second half and had a few chances, made it difficult.
“But it was nice to get that second goal and then the boys from the bench finished the game for us,” Kane said.
