Exclusive: The family of a 23-year-old woman who was assaulted and shot dead on a street north of Brisbane are searching for answers surrounding her death.
Speaking exclusively with 9News for the first time since the tragedy, Chloe Mason's family are preparing for their first Christmas without her.
"She was the most amazing person you could ever meet, like she's someone that you would have wanted to have by your side in life," her sister Dani said.
In what police are labelling as a targeted attack, Chloe was assaulted and shot after an altercation with two men.
It's believed they chased her down the street, firing off several shots, one of them fatal.
"She didn't deserve this, no one does," said Dani.
Her family said Chloe was looking towards a fresh start and was excited for the new year and starting her new job.
"She was getting fit the last conversation we had, she was buying footy boots," Dani said through tears.
Adding to their grief, the family still don't know why Chloe was targeted.
"This is my little sisterc, this is my little baby sister, who is 23 years old," said Hannah McKone.
"There's not really a lot a person can do to die like that."
Police are yet establish the motive behind the attack or why she was with the two men on the street.
A taskforce of local and specialist homicide detectives has been established to try and bring the young woman's family answers.
"How does one get shot down in the street and nobody sees anything and nobody says anything, in the middle of the street... it doesn't make sense to me," Dani said.
"What if it was your daughter, your sister?"
The family has now started an online fundraiser to cover some of her funeral costs.
"The last thing I'm ever going to be able to give her is a nice send off," said Hannah.
"It never felt like home when she wasn't there and it wont feel like home with her gone now."
