Manchester United will be in the draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup tonight but there have been alterations to the competition.

Erik ten Hag's side lifted the trophy in 2023, following a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the final at Wembley, and will be out to go further this time around after losing to the Magpies last term at Old Trafford.

This round will now take place over two midweeks due to the extended European group stages affecting the calendar.

As United are in the Europa League, we are set to play our Carabao Cup tie in the week commencing 16 September, ahead of our game at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on the following Saturday.

It means that no Champions League clubs (Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa) can face Europa League sides (United and Tottenham) in the 32-team draw. Twenty-five of the clubs will progress from round two and Chelsea (in the UEFA Conference League) are not affected at this stage.

The EFL have confirmed that a pre-draw will be staged before Nottingham Forest meet Newcastle United at 20:00 BST, deciding the positioning of the six clubs in Bowl One.

However, the main draw will only happen after the City Ground encounter is concluded, live on Sky Sports, when we will discover our opponents.

The competition is no longer regional with northern and southern ties discontinued from this round onwards.

We will be covering the draw in the United App and on ManUtd.com.
