In the sixth minute, five-eighth Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad drifted across the field, spotting Robert Derby infield before throwing a huge lofted pass to his winger.
McLean, who was called in to replace Will Warbrick after he went down with a thigh injury, charged onto the ball and scored in the corner, elated with the special moment.
Both Michael Ennis and Andrew Voss in commentary couldn’t believe what they’re seeing as McLean, who only made his NRL debut this year at 18-years-old, celebrated in style.
“McLean, the 18-year-old on debut from Penrith, it feels like only moments ago he was playing Harold Matthews for Penrith,” Michael Ennis said.

“The rapid rise into the NRL side with a couple of injuries, now he’s at Test level and gets his opportunity today... and the young fellow can’t believe his luck.
“What a ball it was from Nicoll-Klokstad.”
Meanwhile, Voss added: “Dreams come true in a Kiwis jersey, Casey McLean... unbelievable moments, extraordinary”.
The teenager’s debut went from strength-to-strength, scoring three more times in the 44th, 56th, and 60th minute to complete an extraordinary hat-trick and announcing himself as a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.
His second try was particularly impressive, chasing and retrieving a Johnson chip kick that looked certain for the sideline before spinning past Papua New Guinea fullback Nene Macdonald to score.
“He’d be wishing this night never ends,” Ennis said after he crossed for his fourth.
As it stands, the Penrith young gun has scored more international tries than NRL tries, despite playing six less games for country than club.

McLean, alongside brother Jesse, represented the NSW under 19s side earlier this season, before Casey emerged as an NRL star.
The teenager played seven first grade games in 2024, making his debut on the wing against the Cowboys before playing in the centres in his next six appearances.
