A-League Premiers Plate winners Central Coast Mariners have won the AFC Cup — and prizemoney of A$2.3 million — after beating Lebanese side Al-Ahed 1-0 in the final.
Substitute Alou Kuol scored the winner at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in the 84th minute to keep the Mariners on track for a silverware treble, as they chase an A-League grand final win to add to their Premiers Plate.
By winning the AFC Cup, the Mariners became the first Australian club to win a continental trophy in Asia since the Western Sydney Wanderers won the 2014 AFC Champions League.
The Mariners meet Sydney in their two-legged A-League semi-final, while the Wellington Phoenix will play Melbourne Victory.
