Thorne Named to Australia Roster for World Lacrosse World ...
ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA - Pitt Lacrosse graduate student Abby Thorne has been named to Team Australia for the 2025 Asia Pacific Lacrosse Union APLU Championship World Lacrosse World Qualifier. Thorne has started and played in 53 games in three years for the Panthers, leading the defense and recording 70 ground balls and 43 caused turnovers.
This World Qualifier event will see Australia compete for a spot at the 2026 World Championship alongside Japan (who have already qualified as hosts), with the top three teams booking their tickets to Tokyo. Australia will take on Hong Kong, China and the Philippines for a spot in the semifinals where the top two of Japan, Korea, New Zealand and Chinese Taipei will await. Australia will look to not only qualify but solidify their world number 4 ranking with the new 16-team World Championship format making seeding critical. The Asia-Pacific Women's Lacrosse Championship will take place January 6 - 11, 2025 at the Sunshine Coast Stadium in Queensland, Australia.
Thorne will return to Pittsburgh after the international competition to prepare for the upcoming 2025 NCAA lacrosse season. The Panthers open up play at St. Bonaventure on February 8 in New York.
