Main Street Shutdown for Cinco De Mayo Celebration

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Main Street in Grand Junction was shutdown on Saturday to celebrate Cinco De Mayo.

Cinco De Mayo is a yearly celebration held on May 5th. Although the celebration is held on the 5th, the city of Grand Junction celebrated a day early sticking to tradition. As of 2024 this is the 42nd annual Non Profit Cinco de Mayo celebration that has ben held on main street by the Latino Anglo Alliance. The event kicked off at 10 a.m. and ends at 10 p.m.

Many of the attractions and performances include watermelon eating contests, a car show, scholarship presentations, live music, the Nueva Generacion Folkorico, El Charro de Oro, Jalapeno eating contest, a Native prayer, various foodtrucks and vendors, and opportunities to learn the history of the Latino Anglo Alliance. All the profits made tonight will be redistributed to local students.
