Our favorite California Karate kids are back, with the first batch episodes of Cobra Kai’s sixth and final season landing on Netflix today. The new season picks up some time after the events of Season 5, at the end of which Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) finally brought down the psychopathic Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) with a little help from the manipulative and cunning John Kreese (Martin Kove).

The series, created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, began as a YouTube Red/YouTube Premium series for its first two seasons before being picked up by Netflix. After that, its popularity exploded, though the first seasons remain by far the best. The show takes place decades after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament in The Karate Kid, with Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso returning to karate as rival instructors—and a new generation of karate kids taking over in the ring.

On top of the series’ stars, Cobra Kai’s returning cast includes Xolo Maridueña, Courtney Henggeler, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Peyton List, Vanessa Rubio, Dallas Dupree Young, Alicia Hannah-Kim, Griffin Santopietro, Oona O’Brien and Gianni DeCenzo.

Along with Kove and Griffith, Karate Kid movie alumni have included Yuji Okumoto Elisabeth Shue, Sean Kanan, Robyn Lively and Tamlyn Tomita, and more.

When Do More Episodes Come To Netflix?

Netflix subscribers may be a little worried to see that the new season only has five episodes. Usually, a season clocks in at 10 for Cobra Kai. Rest assured, this is not the entirety of Season 6. In fact, this season will be the longest of the bunch. The only downside? It’s being split into three separate parts.

Part 1 is out now. Part 2 comes to Netflix on November 20th with five more episodes. The final five episodes will release sometime in 2025.

What Should We Expect In Season 6?

Season 6 kicks off after Johnny and Daniel’s victory over Silver and the two men and their students finally working together in earnest. It’s peacetime in the Valley for the first time in a long while. But John Kreese’s shadow looms over everything.

“Kreese has always been pretty hardcore,” Jon Hurwitz told Entertainment Weekly, “but he's always had a little bit of a soft spot for Johnny. This time around, the soft spot is gone. So, Kreese is potentially more dangerous than ever. Partnering with Kim Da-eun, who has been eager to please her grandfather and continue his traditions, [she and Kreese] have a long history. It’ll be great to see them working together — great for us as viewers, but not necessarily great for Johnny and Daniel.”

As to why this season is so long, Hayden Schlossberg adds “Part of the reason that we have 15 episodes this season is because we wanted to tie up all the characters' storylines. We knew we had a lot of characters. Whoever your favorite character is, we have a story intended for them and they all have their spotlight moments.”

With such a long and spread-out season, we’re unlikely to get all the answers to all our questions until sometime next year. But it’s good to be back with Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang and, probably before too long, Cobra Kai itself. As Josh Heald points out, “Cobra Kai never dies.”
