Thousands flock to Melbourne stadium for first of sold-out Coldplay ...
Thousands of Coldplay fans are piling into Melbourne's Marvel Stadium as the British rock band prepares to play the first of four sold-out shows in its Music of the Spheres world tour.
A technical error preventing gates from opening at the scheduled time, leaving concertgoers waiting for a short period this afternoon, but 9News understands the issue has been resolved and fans are flowing into the stadium as normal.
Coldplay is set to take to the stage at 8.45pm, after three warm-up acts including Emmanuel Kelly, the son of humanitarian advocate Moira Kelly.
Emmanuel Kelly first performed on stage with Coldplay in Melbourne during their last visit to the country in 2016.
Along with a myriad of hits, Coldplay is also tipped to play a tribute song to the late Shane Warne, who was a great mate of lead singer Chris Martin.
Martin jumped on the piano yesterday to play the Neighbours theme song for sound check.
The band added two extra dates to its original two-night stopover in Melbourne, after which they will play four shows at Sydney's Accor Stadium before taking the tour to New Zealand.
The tour has already brought in $1.5 billion and is being tipped as the biggest rock tour of all time.
