Cole Palmer is expected to sign a seven-year contract with the option of an eighth at Chelsea as he prepares to cement his transfer from Manchester to the capital.

The 21-year-old completed the first part of his medical ahead of his impending move to Stamford Bridge this afternoon as Mauricio Pochettino prepares to usher another new player into his squad.

The deal for the Under-21 England international is expected to go through on Friday after Manchester City accepted a £45m offer for Palmer on Wednesday.

Palmer has been keen to secure more regular first-team opportunities after seeing his playing time limited at the Etihad and has been told he will be used on the right side of Chelsea's attack and as a number ten.

The Blues intend to deploy him in a similar role to what Phil Foden is used at City in a bid to get the best out of the Palmer given his evident potential.

Further cup appearances followed before he went on to feature in the Premier League for the first time against Norwich in March last year.

Palmer at the time described making his English top-flight bow as 'a dream come true' with the Etihad's academy star hoping to follow in the footsteps of team-mate Phil Foden.

The youngster follows in the footsteps of Raheem Sterling who called time on his Etihad career in favour of joining Todd Boehly's revolution at Stamford Bridge.

He leaves Guardiola's star-studded side after making 41 appearances senior appearances for City, scoring six goals and registering two assists.
