Creswick bushfire now brought under control - 3BA
A bushfire in Creswick has now been contained, after first igniting yesterday afternoon.
The blaze is travelling from Melbourne Road in a north-easterly direction towards Sawmill Road in Springmount.
Incident Controller for the fire, John Rofe, says fire crews managed to construct a control line around 95 per cent of the fire, with the fire behavior moderating dramatically overnight.

However, he says there’s still a lot of burning materials in the area.
“We’ve got no running fire today, but our crews will be focused on assessing and treating any safety hazards [such as] hazardous trees in particular, and also [expanding] the control line into a depth of hopefully up to 30 metres, so putting out any burning logs and stumps and potential ignition sources,” he said.
Some roads remain closed, including Creswick-Dean Road between Melbourne Road and Ballarat-Daylesford Road and Melbourne Road between Creswick-Dean Road and Howards Road.
A relief centre is open for impacted residents at the Doug Lindsay Reserve at Lindsay Park Drive in Creswick.
