The ACT Meteors have revealed their 13-player squad for the upcoming T20 Spring Challenge, set to commence in Sydney on Friday, October 11.

The T20 Spring Challenge is a newly introduced domestic competition by Cricket Australia for the 2024/25 season. This initiative ensures no reduction in women’s domestic games despite the shortening of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). The tournament will feature teams aligned with the eight WBBL clubs, along with the ACT Meteors.

In a fresh twist, the ACT Meteors will don vibrant yellow shirts instead of their traditional royal blue. The new design continues to feature the indigenous artwork of Wiradjuri woman Kalara Gilbert, celebrating cultural heritage.

Due to the tournament’s alignment with the WBBL, ACT contracted players Katie Mack and Anesu Mushangwe will represent the Adelaide Strikers during the T20 Spring Challenge.

With Mack unavailable, ACT Meteors vice-captain Carly Leeson will step into the captaincy role.

“I’ve been in the vice-captaincy role for a for a few years now, and while disappointing that Katie won’t be playing for the ACT (during this tournament), it is super exciting for myself and others to get to step up and showcase our leadership abilities,” Leeson said.

“This tournament is a massive development opportunity for our team as a whole. Not a lot of our girls get the opportunity to play T20 cricket at this level and I think it will provide a great opportunity to show their skill on the bigger stage and potentially pick up a WBBL contract.”

The tournament will see teams divided into two pools, with matches held in Sydney and Adelaide. Each team will play four matches, leading to semi-finals and finals for the top four teams.

The ACT Meteors will compete in Sydney against the Sydney Sixers, Melbourne Stars, Brisbane Heat, and Hobart Hurricanes, starting on October 11.
