Australia has been bowled out for 383 after centurion Cameron Green and tailender Josh Hazlewood combined for a record-breaking 116-run partnership for the tenth wicket against New Zealand at the Basin Reserve.

The unlikely duo survived more than two hours at the crease on Friday morning before Black Caps seamer Matt Henry broke the stand, with Hazlewood chipping a catch towards mid-off for 22.

Green finished unbeaten on 174, the highest score of his Test career, while Henry secured a five-wicket haul, finishing with 5-70.

Now, Australia’s bowling unit will look to capitalise on Green’s stellar knock as New Zealand look to claim a first Test victory over its trans-Tasman rivals since 2011.

Earlier on Friday, Green attempted to poach the strike after Hazlewood clipped a delivery through mid-wicket. The pair crossed paths before backtracking and abandoning the regulation single, ensuring Green was on strike for the first delivery of the following over.

“What is this?” Sky Sports commentator Scotty Stevenson laughed.

“What is that?”

After the drinks break, Green passed the 150-run milestone with a vicious hook shot that landed on the hill.

Green rescued Australia on the opening day after his teammates stumbled either side of lunch, with the all-rounder describing the pitch as “pretty tough”.

“It was just one of those days that someone needed to stay out there, and I’m just glad it was me,” he said.
