Young Motors Women's Cricket League round 4 wrap: Wanderers ...
Results were as expected in Sunday’s Young Motors Women’s Cricket League, with Wanderers predictably but impressively beating Chapman Valley-Northampton at Mazzuchelli Oval.
The 59-run margin flattered CVN, with Wanderers’ Olivia Bidwell winning the toss and batting. Her team made 8-99 but five of the wickets were retirements. Sam Biddiscombe (24), Bidwell (19) and Abby Green (15) were among the retirees.
CVN were outclassed but to their credit worked hard with fine bowling from Chloe Phillips, Kylie Bremner and Kiara Hutchinson who each took a wicket.
CVN had to settle for batting out their 20 overs in the reply and made 8-40 with Alexa Wekwerth (14), who’s shown promise, topscore.
Bidwell (4-3) claimed career-best figures while Ashlyn Thompson bowled Kylie Bremner in the opening over to cheaply dismiss CVN’s most accomplished batter.
At Wonthella, Sporties easily beat Towns by 58 runs after captain Jo Walker won the toss and her side made 4-104.
Openers Sarah Prickett (38) and Belinda Burrows (24) ensured a winning tally with a 44-run stand. Amanda Gundry (13 not out) finished off nicely. Ruby MacLachlan (2-26) was best of the bowlers.
Towns captain Ruth Vorster (26) played resolutely in the reply, lasting 55 balls until she fell in the last over when stumped by the always alert Prickett off Jess Wake (2-9).
Ruby MacPherson (2-7) and Tia Hatch (2-5) also bowled well though Towns saw out their overs to end at 7-46.
