The enigmatic, and always colourful, Cyndi Lauper is set to farewell her beloved Newcastle fans next year.

The Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award-winning artist will bring her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour to the Entertainment Centre on Monday 7 April.

And, this time, she’ll also be supported by Australian pop icons The Veronicas.

After selling more than 50 million records worldwide, Lauper has captivated audiences globally with her distinctive voice, bold punk aesthetic and unforgettable music.

From her groundbreaking 1983 offering She’s So Unusual, which earned her a Grammy for Best New Artist, to her chart-topping hits, she’s solidified her place in history.

It also became the first debut album by a female artist to achieve four top five tracks, thanks to Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Time After Time, She Bop and All Through the Night, on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her success continued with the soundtrack for The Goonies (1985) and her second record True Colors (1986).

It included the number one single True Colors and Change of Heart, which peaked at number three.

Her cover of Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On was a moderate hit in 1987.

In 1989, she bounced back with I Drove All Night and, in 1993, had her first dance club hit with That’s What I Think.

Since 1983, Lauper has released 11 studio albums and participated in many other projects.

In 2010, Memphis Blues became Billboard’s most successful blues record of the year, remaining at number one on the charts for 13 consecutive weeks.

She won the Tony Award for best original score in 2013 for composing the Broadway musical Kinky Boots, making her the first woman to win the category by herself.

It was awarded five other Tonys, too, including Best New Musical.

In 2014, she collected a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album for the cast recording.

The Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour marks Lauper’s final major odyssey, so fans can expect dynamic performances of her greatest hits.

Tickets go on sale to the general public from 2pm on Wednesday 23 October.
