Six couples. One almighty dancefloor showdown. But only one winner: Human Nature singer Phil Burton has been crowned this year’s Dancing With the Stars champion, taking home the sought-after mirror ball trophy.

In a closely fought contest, Burton emerged victorious over Home and Away actor Emily Weir after taking home top scores from the show’s judges — Todd McKenney, Sharna Burgess, Craig Revel Horwood and Mark Wilson — and the audience at home, who had the final say.

Actors Virginia Gay and Christie Whelan-Browne, comedian Mary Coustas and singer Paulini gave it their all to impress the judges with their own freestyle dances but fell short of Burton and Weir, who both scored 39 from the panel.

Burton topped the leaderboard for his Motown moves to Wilson Pickett’s Land of 1000 Dances, while Emily received the same score for her Spice Girls-inspired salsa.

Holding the trophy, Burton said participating in the show had been the “absolute time of his life”.

“This show has just been so incredible for the last seven weeks,” he said.

“And, you know, it is a competition but it doesn’t feel like it when you are out here and you are with all these amazing people. It’s been an absolute joy to be a part of it.

“I also want to thank my family who were here tonight, my beautiful wife and my kids.”
