Dancing with the Stars premiere recap: Julie Goodwin exits due to injury, Lisa McCune tops leaderboard with a fiery Tango.

A vibrant mix of celebrities adorned in sequins graced the dance floor in Sunday night’s premiere of Dancing With The Stars on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Sonia Kruger and new co-host Dr Chris Brown introduced the 12 contestants vying for the illustrious Mirror Ball Trophy. The stars were divided into two groups, set to perform on alternating weeks.

Lisa McCune, a star of stage and screen, opened the night with a fiery Tango that earned an impressive 30 points. Judge Helen Richey remarked: “that’s what a tango should look like!”

Fashion designer and model Nadia Bartel brought energy to the floor with her Cha-Cha-Cha, but received only 17 points. Judge Craig Revel Horwood criticised: “The hip and leg action was not there in the slightest.”

SAS Australia’s Ant Middleton delivered a military-inspired Paso Doble, scoring 18 points. Judge Sharna Burgess praised: “I love that you charge it around the floor. I love that you had power.”

Home and Away actor James Stewart earned 25 points for his sultry Cha-Cha-Cha, with Helen Richey calling him a “sexy beast”.

Unfortunately, Julie Goodwin was forced to withdraw due to two serious tears in her calf muscles sustained during rehearsals. Although unable to debut tonight, she hopes to return before the first elimination.

AFL legend Ben Cousins found himself at the bottom of the leaderboard with 14 points for his Foxtrot. Despite the imperfect execution, Sharna Burgess noted he was “infectious to watch.”

Leaderboard Recap:

Lisa McCune and Ian Waite: 30 James Stewart and Jorja Freeman: 25 Ant Middleton and Alex Vladimirov: 18 Nadia Bartel and Lyu Masuda: 17 Ben Cousins and Siobhan Power: 14 Julie Goodwin and Andrey Gorbunov: Unable to dance

Next Sunday, the second group of celebrities, including Samantha Jade, Adam Dovile, Shane Crawford, and Nova Peris, will take to the dancefloor for the first time.

Dancing with the Stars continues next Sunday at 7.00pm on Channel 7 and 7plus.
