The Herald Sun has reported that planning efforts are already under way.

"The process of installing a statue of former premier Daniel Andrews, who served over 3000 days in office, is under way, and the Department of Premier and Cabinet has provided a brief to government initiating this," a Victorian government spokesperson told the newspaper.

Andrews will be the state's fifth premier to receive the honour, alongside Albert Dunstan, Henry Bolte, Rupert Hamer and John Cain Jr.

Their sculptures, all commissioned by sculptor Peter Corlett, stand at 1 Treasury Place.

In a twist of irony, the former Liberal premier missed that milestone, but sworn enemy Andrews sailed past.

"Victorians decide who gets elected, and for how long they stay elected ... and they obviously decided Jeff Kennett should not have the honour of achieving 3000 days," Tourism, Sport and Major Events Minister Steve Dimopoulos said.
