Writer-producer-director Alex Scharfman’s debut is a dark comedy about a father, Elliot, and daughter, Ridley, who accidentally hit a unicorn with their car while on the way to his pharmaceutical billionaire boss’s mountain retreat. It turns out the creature’s body has curative properties, which the company tries to exploit. But then another unicorn shows up seeking vengeance, and Elliot and Ridley have to try to escape…if they even deserve to.

Along with Rudd and Ortega, the cast includes Academy Award nominee Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Téa Leoni (Madam Secretary), Will Poulter (The Bear), Anthony Carrigan (Barry), Sunita Mani (GLOW), Jessica Hynes (The Franchise), and Steve Park (Asteroid City). The film is co-financed by A24 and Ley Line Entertainment, which also financed Best Picture winner Everything Everywhere All at Once. Ari Aster (Midsommar) is an executive producer. The score is composed by horror legend John Carpenter, his son Cody Carpenter, and their collaborator Daniel Davies.

Death of a Unicorn will bow in theaters in spring 2025.
