Match Report: Sydney FC has defeated Western Sydney Wanderers 1-0 thanks to a late Caley Tallon-Henniker strike to go ten games undefeated in the Sydney Derby.
The Figtree flyer smashed the ball into the roof of the net following a perfectly weighted pass from fellow substitute Shay Hollman.
It was no more than the dominant Sky Blues deserved after having a number of chances cleared off the line and hitting the bar through Tumeth.
Goalkeeper Brianna Edwards was called into action a couple of times as Wanderers had their moments however the home side’s late show ensured all three points, the first of the season for Ante Juric’s squad.
Jordan Thompson gets stuck into the WanderersWhat They Said: Ante Juric:- “It’s nice and we needed the points after a slow start but it’s early days so we knew we’d come back a bit.
“Even though it wasn’t our best performance in the world but we are slowly getting better and better.
“I was confident, first half we had the most chances and the second half they came into it a little bit but I was very confident with Caley (Tallon-Henniker) coming on with her pace.
“Shea (Connors) was causing problems, Prinny (Ibini) started getting on the ball and I felt this confidence and ultimately we got a goal so I’m very happy.”
Caley Tallon-Henniker:- “That’s incredible – last time I played the Wanderers I got a goal so I said maybe it can happen again and it did so I’m pretty happy.
“Growing up I loved Sydney FC and Sydney Derbies were always a big one in the house to watch so to be able to play in two of them now, the atmosphere is second to none, it’s all you want to play in.
“I knew I could come on and make a difference so I want to make sure once I came on I made it count and I was pretty happy with myself.”
